I am thinking about going to the Thursday of the Festival and would like to know a few things of anybody who has been
Mainly i need to know the following
How fequent are the buses from the course to the station after racing
How long would it take to walk
February 21, 2010 at 19:51 #278322I haven’t been for a few years, but there used to be a line of buses in the car park. Obviously, you would have to wait for each to fill up before leaving. As for the walk I would say 35-45 minutes?
February 21, 2010 at 20:27 #278331Although there seem to be about a million people queuing for the buses, they do leave very frequently, are reasonably priced and are probably your best bet.
It’s quite a trek from the station to the course and although it might be a pleasant way on the way there, there is quite a bit of walking to do at the course and you might be too tired to attempt it on the way back.
February 21, 2010 at 20:33 #278333…and, I could have sworn I heard a rumour that Cormack15 runs a free taxi service for TRF members – you just need to have a piece of heather in your lapel and he’ll spot you.

Booked tickets for the Tuesday, have a 250 mile drive in store, Tataniano better make it worth while.
February 22, 2010 at 09:15 #278372I’ll be there all four days – no taxi service I’m afraid but happy to meet up with any TRF members who want to say hello.
February 22, 2010 at 12:40 #278386We’re there on Tuesday also; just look out for an odd elderly couple sitting by the parade ring at the crack of dawn having a cup of tea. Probably wearing Newcastle United hats [only because they’re the warmest hats we’ve got!]. Just a bit concerned about the weather, cause it’s not warming up much, is it?
February 22, 2010 at 12:47 #278388I was thinking the same thing about the weather just this morning Moe. Bit of a worry.
February 22, 2010 at 13:20 #278391I always preferred going by train until the price went through the roof and I also got tired of standing all the way back. From memory we used to buy a return ticket for the bus and then, because the buses slow down on the approach to the track it’s nice to get off and walk the last bit. If you get there early enough it’s great to stop just before the entrance and watch the horses being unloaded. That’s where an old Irish guy with a dog told me to back Kicking King the year that he won. Then comes the ritual of touching Arkle for luck, and then we go to the pre parade ring to see what’s happening. I hope they have some of the old winners again this year, because I used to love seeing my old heroes in the boxes to the left of the ring, although I think PN has taken them over now. David Pipe always has the box to the right of the pre parade ring. We then go to the tote and put all of our bets on for the day which saves time between races. We do a lot of earwigging early on; Mike always says ‘if I don’t answer you when you’re talking to me it’s because I’m listening to something’. It’s amazing what you can pick up!
