I quite like the look of Journey With Me for the novice chases.
He defeated Minella Crooner and Kilcruit at Christmas. That form looks a lot better now.
He had little chance behind Sir Gerhard in the Ballymore but was still running a fine race when undeservedly falling at the last.
He is too slow for the Turners so either the Brown Advisory or NH Chase must be on the agenda. He looks like a character who takes a bit of knowing and I wonder if they would prefer to keep Rachael Blackmore on him, which would obviously mean the 3 mile race for which he is 16/1.
March 21, 2022 at 10:03 #1589186Lovely shout that Cork Journey with Me one I hadn’t thought about for the 3m chase, thinking about it 10/1 still feels very big for The Nice Guy, going to back him today for it. Journey With Me at this stage seems one of the only clear challengers could well be worth having a little saver on.

March 21, 2022 at 13:45 #1589211Backed several of those already featured in this thread, but I’ll mention a couple more.
As VTC implied in the Gold Cup thread, I’m a big Jungle Boogie fan and I’ve backed him at 66s for the Gold Cup and 40-1 to win any race.
I’ve also kept the faith with Edwardstone, who is still being underrated as he is not trained by Mullins or Henderson. Do I think he’ll beat peak-form Shishkin or Energumene? No. Do I think that 12-1 is an incredible each-way price? Definitely.

March 21, 2022 at 16:06 #1589226I can’t have GDC for the Gold Cup and I think he’ll run in the Ryanair
Absolutely gutting to see him fall after calling him for the Turners a few months before.
I’ll back Gaillard Du Mesnil at big odds as he’s still improving and several at shorter odds won’t even turn up
March 21, 2022 at 18:22 #1589240As much as I’d love to see it I can’t see Mullins running Allaho against GDC , Allaho could easily win 2 more Ryanair’s , why do a Elliott and spoil that

I think the same, can imagine Mullins is more likely to try him for the Gold Cup this year and if that fails then take on Allaho, all baring injury, the following season should he not stay the trip. I think GDC will be better over the Ryanair trip, but as you said with Allaho already so supreme in that division I can see Mullins taking the gamble to see if GDC can win a gold cup.
March 21, 2022 at 19:45 #1589243Oh, they’ll undoubtedly try him at 3 miles next season but look at Mullins options for the races mentioned, with the prospect of Monkfish back in the Gold Cup.
And I don’t think GDC stay that trip doing what he does ( and I thought the same about Vautour )

Thanks for highlighting that, Glad. Very happy to take that price.
I argued on the Arkle thread that if Edwardstone was trained by any of the Big 4, he would have been 5/4 favourite. He certainly won like one!
Looking at those ahead of him in the betting: Energumene is clearly rock solid and a worthy favourite. However, Shishkin has questions to answer; Ferny Hollow looks injury prone; and Bob Olinger and Galopin Des Champs look unlikely to run. I would not be scared of the former anyway.
Edwardstone does everything right and if he is fit and well he is absolutely certain to run here. I doubt he would be a 12/1 chance either.
March 22, 2022 at 10:22 #1589304Can’t wait for the odds to be released for next years Martin Pipe, surely the Skeltons are going to be even more driven to make Langer Dan a handicap fix it job for the race, third time lucky for them I reckon!
March 22, 2022 at 10:27 #1589305Did anyone see the Tony Bloom interview after he won the Champion Chase? Said they were very confident and that he’d lumped on – obviously aftertiming but the way he said it made it sound like Mullins genuinely was confident the horse had a good chance to turn the tables with Shiskin – now that might just have been because of the ground, but this was never eluded to. Which leaves the possibility (and noone would be surprised if this was the case) that Enurgemene wasn’t 100% fit at Ascot and they left a good deal in the tank to work with for Cheltenham. If this is the case then Enurgemene’s current odds for next years Champion Chase seem very generous, but that’s a big if.
March 22, 2022 at 10:52 #1589308Didn’t Bloom also lumped on at Ascot ??

March 22, 2022 at 10:54 #1589309You’re right Nathan he did, which almost makes it even weirder than he lumped on so confidently this time around, but again maybe he was just aftertiming and wasn’t actually particularly confident when he put the bet on at Cheltenham.
