What’s coming through to beat flooring porter , no reason Tyme hill will reverse form , Paisley is getting on ditto Champ , can see Commander of fleet running here but is he good enough
March 20, 2022 at 08:59 #1589070Agreed mate, unless Klassical Dream wasn’t 100% and thus didn’t run to its true ability, but I see that as being unlikely and even with that as a possibility (which is slim) the 6/1 about Flooring Porter is too big, the time wasn’t massively impressive though compared to other races on the day which would be a bit of a concern given its tactics.
March 20, 2022 at 09:25 #1589079Agree about Constitution Hill, Ben. Likewise I would not usually back a horse at a short price so far out – but he was 3.55 on Betfair this morning and I could not resist.
Also agree Flooring Porter is generous at 6/1. Cannot see anything behind him beating him.
Interesting that HDLG suggests Commander of Fleet. I gave him a shout this year at 66/1 NRNB on the Stayers thread. He was good enough to split Minella Indo and Allaho in the 2019 Albert Bartlett. Whether he will be good enough to win a Stayers four years later is open to doubt but I think he should be targeted at the race.
March 20, 2022 at 10:12 #1589087Very true CAS and with form like that over hurdles you could be on to a good bet there depending on what odds are on offer this time around.
March 20, 2022 at 10:28 #1589089Had one more bet: American Mike at 10/1 in the Ballymore.
I suppose there is a chance he could go to the Supreme but when Elliott has had a top class novice (Samcro, Envoi Allen) he has taken this route.
Just hope Mullins runs Facile Vega in the opening race on Tuesday!
March 20, 2022 at 10:34 #1589091Love that CAS yeah my ante post bets are mainly based on what races trainers have targeted in recent years with similar horses, we are creatures of habit (especially when winning) and I think a lot of people overlook this!
March 20, 2022 at 11:33 #1589098Creatures of habit trainers may be CAS, although unfortunately American Mike is not the jewel in the Cullentra crown.
March 20, 2022 at 11:36 #1589099Tom I’m currently smoking my first herbal cigarette of the day and my brain isn’t functioning well enough to work out what horse you’re eluding to….
March 20, 2022 at 12:32 #1589103I will have a guess Tom means Demandrivingdouvan – but he is unraced bar one point to point. Wouldn’t he be running in the bumper instead?
I am struggling to think of anything else.
March 20, 2022 at 12:46 #1589105Yeah I still can’t think of anything either, that’s a cruel cliffhanger if I ever saw one.
March 20, 2022 at 12:55 #1589106Please put us out of our misery Tom!
March 20, 2022 at 14:34 #1589117I’ll have my usual long rangers, but it’s a few bits here and there. Even with NRNB I’ll be more guarded next season, as I find that the Anteposts are clouding the issue on the day. Had a couple of winners that got away, as I had targetted a few Antepost, and after a disappointing week, I could’ve done with them.
TYT, interesting on Gailard Du Mesnil, I see you can get 20’s. For what it’s worth, I don’t think that would be Mullins MO at all, and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t pick something up before the seasons out. I could see me joining you though if it does work out that way.
My main focus at this stage is usually The National Hunt Chase. I really thought at the start of last week that I’d be having a go on The Goffer, but after his run in The Martin Pipe, that plans on hold. Same goes for Decimation, but I’ll keep an eye on them. NH Chase still a good trial for Gold Cup I reckon, and I’ll look for something that I think can go down that route in time
The one I really liked last was The Nice Guy, but I’ve decided to chance him for The Brown Advisory. Smashing run that, liked it a lot, and he’s just ahead of Call Me Lyreen, who’s a proper notebook horse for me over fences next year.
My National Hunt Chase selection at this time is Banbridge. That was a nice performance, and I’d no hesitation in taking 20’s. I’ll have more on if I see bigger, though again, I can see Call Me Lyreen going here.
I’ve been following Venetia Williams on/off for years now, and this is definitely the time to stay loyal. I’ll be betting a lot of hers in the coming weeks, and though not the usual approach for me, with him being short enough, I just love L’Homme Presse for The Gold Cup. Had every intention of taking the 25’s on offer, but didn’t get a sniff, and had to settle for 12’s. I know this is a bit left field, but the yard aren’t averse to pitching them in at the deep end, so I just wonder how much improvement the Russell team can get out of Corach Rambler. I don’t need to be told the flaws in that view at this time, but I’ll be watching his progress. It hurt my pocket last week, but I was taken by that run. I’ll no doubt bet a few at treble figures, but L’Homme Presse and Corach definitely Gold Cup types
The other horse I’m watching closely is Jungle Boogie, and I’m sure Gladiateur will be too.
Hardly original, but I’ll probably throw Delta Work in a few perms at the turn of the year, but obviously no point in backing him now. The only possible alternative to him at this stage could be Escaria Ten. I’m hoping that he runs a big race at Aintree. If that was the case, then this might just be a route that they consider next year. I suppose Galvin might also be sent this route, but he’s harder to predict after this campaign.
Last but not least is The Stayers. I’d love to see Saint Roi stepped up, and I don’t think it’s out of the question. Only time will tell with that. I do like a go on The Stayers but it completely passed me by this year, and I watched it without a bet. After a couple of big race flops, Chantry House quite rightly has his critics, but even with no sign that he’s going to revert to timber, I can’t pass up the 50’s. He’s not a chaser, and there is an engine, so why not
Cashed out – L’Homme Presse, Banbridge, and Chantry House as prices are steady, and no point then just sitting there gathering dust
Brown Advisory – The Nice Guy 10’s
Gold Cup – Jungle Boogie 66’sMarch 20, 2022 at 14:51 #1589120Demandrivingdouvan would be the one fellas. He was picked up in a private sale prior to the previously planned visit to the sales ring after racing on Thursday. He’s five already, so the plan has been mentioned to get a bumper run into him before the end of the season and then presumably hurdles await next term.
Big things expected though….
March 20, 2022 at 15:38 #1589123I wondered when someone would mention Chantry , you,ve got to question his attitude now , fill they try hurdles so early , id be more likely they hike him up in distance with a tilt St the GN , in my eyes he,s one to take on for now
March 20, 2022 at 18:35 #1589142Venture I’ll be following you in on The Nice Guy for the RSA at 10/1, ticks a lot of the right boxes.
And nice one Tom I’ll think about backing that for something next year if he does indeed have a bumper run this season.
March 20, 2022 at 21:46 #1589152When I did Jonbon Hills had no market so now got 14s
Any views on Zanahiyr for stayers never a 2m horse looks about stamina but did run well at 2m. And over 3m bring about more improvement
March 21, 2022 at 04:20 #1589168He,s still a young horse so I’d be surprised if they didn’t have atilt at the champion again , Epantate isn’t getting any younger so chance of 3rd/4th depending of where Sir Gerrard or CH go chasing
