That’s his grade 1, winning against quality opposition

What was second in that race Rocky, certainly finished well ?

    Sorry saw your earlier post.

Just checking in on this forum and catching up.

The place seems to be going well at the moment. There’s a bit of an arsehole element present, but hey, it wouldn’t be the same if there wasn’t. They say nature abhors a vacuum and I suppose when one arse piece leaves, another fills the void.

Nice to see the Ante Post King rising from his slumbers and getting some good winners. The Bristol De Mai obsession shows that he’s still misguided on occasion though

Excellent contributions from Stilvi of late on the boards. I am worryingly in agreement with him on several topics but I like how he has been sticking by his guns and going against the general tide on several topics. A forum needs people willing to do that.

I was underwhelmed by last year’s 2yo Crop to such an extent that I put much more effort into studying for Cheltenham this year.

I have backed two for The Gold Cup this year and they were Native River at 33/1, just before The Hennessy, and Champagne West at 50/1, just because I felt he might prove better for his new stable if he could sort his jumping out.

My other main hopes ante-post are Might Bite, Finian’s Oscar, Brain Power, Charli Parcs, Altior and a totally speculative punt in the Bumper at big odds on Henry De Bromhead’s Paloma Blue, who seemed a nice prospect when winning his only race at Fairyhouse. I had an ante-post bet on Don Bersey for the Fred Winter and feel he would have had a favourite’s chance from a decent weight but they are not going to go there with him and I was subsequently told that the owner lacks ambition for the higher levels of the game.

I made a deliberate point of not backing any Willie Mullins horses this year. Typically it is as muddled as ever with him.

This forum is the best on the internet in terms of discussion and it seems to be functioning better in my absence, so that’s excellent to see.

Here are the ones to avoid at Cheltenham due to the Caution Curse:-

Supreme Novices:- Charli Parcs 7/1 and Finian’s Oscar 25/1. Already discarded my early Chateau Conti bet
The Champion Hurdle:- Brain Power at 12/1, 10/1 several times, also 15/2 and 8/1. Faugheen at 2/1 was binned.
The Neptune Finian’s Oscar several times backed at 6/1.
RSA Might Bite at 10/1 and 6/1.
The Triumph Hurdle Charli Parcs at 20/1 and a saver on Defi Du Seuil at 4/1.
    JLT Waiting Patiently 16/1
    Bumper Paloma Blue 25/1
Gold Cup Native River 33/1, Champagne West 50/1

I am swerving the Handicaps this year.

This Gold Cup lacks strength in depth. Age is against Cue Card, Djakadam has had his chances and disappointed in the Lexus, the stats don’t favour him and the Irish squad has looked stronger in years past than this time. This is an open renewal though. The problem with Bristol De Mai is that he seemed to take a leap forward out of the blue and I am always suspicious of that, particularly as he is a horse who has been beaten several times when strongly fancied and he is a bit of a seconditis horse as well. They say he cut himself in his last race, when he was surprisingly favourite in my mind. Paddy Brennan voiced his feeling that Native River was a “Certainty” that day.

If backing now I would be looking at 9/2 the field before betting but I hope Native River can reward the faith.

Best of luck and keep the forum moving.

ps I did warn that Apples Jade was seriously overrated. Those wide margin winners always beguile punters and handicappers alike.

    Jeremiah Chapter 3 Verse 7:-

“And the Lord sayeth, that there be none so overly ranked as the horse whom winnith the contest by a cable’s distance, this be particularly true for the horse who runneth in the field where many yoke of oxen have ploweth the land”

    Amen.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Not been as involved ante-post this year as previous but I’m happy enough given the disarray in the markets this year.

Cheers Graham, I’m very very happy with the way things have went Ante-Post, and I’m nicely ahead in Champion Hurdle, and I’m way ahead on The Gold Cup, it’s in a very healthy shape. Another couple of decent laying opportunities, and I can guarantee myself to be in profit for The Whole Festival, before a balls kicked.

The flip side is that I’ll probably never manage this again, and that I’ve probably used up my luck, and will go the whole 4 days without another winner.

I do spend a bit of time on it, and it keeps me going through the winter, more of a hobby than anything else. Obviously the one I’m most excited about is the Native River bet. Mentioned I was going to do it way back last spring, and put the first bet up tail end of last summer. If you’d told me then it would still be running, I’d have laughed at you, but it’s still going

To be honest, been here before, and it always ends in tears, but had some excitement from it if nothing else.

Now just to avoid losing too much on the handicaps Ante-Post……….but I’m already looking :mail: FFS

Great stuff VTC, bit of a rollercoaster mine still, but Thistlecrack out and few lays here and there have helped to get things looking ok.

When i get half a day free i’ll get mine up.

Good luck with them Botchy, and I think your dark horse could be Alary in The Ryanair. Fits a system I do very occasionally, and I wanted to be with him, but missed the prices.

Wanted those treble figure odds, and waited too long, and missed out :negative:

Struggling to go green on the race anyway, so might as well add a few quid on Botchy, as I’d kick myself I missed out after mentioning him.
