January 17, 2008 at 21:49 #136075I would say this years race is worthy of a place at the festival-off the top of my head Gaspara,Refinement,Sweet Kiln,Chomba Womba and Amaretto Rose are all possibles for the race. That sets a fairly decent standard.
January 17, 2008 at 22:05 #136079I’d like to see a three-day Festival based around apracing’s suggestion from the end of last year – running all the chases over the New Course, all the hurdles over the Old Course and converting the chase track on the Old Course to a cross-country course where no jockey should get lost. Then we have one day devoted to each discipline, which should suit the fans of all three

I’d say so. If all those turn up it’s going to be far in excess of anything the Yorkshire Bank Hurdle, the Mares’ Final, etc. are going to be able to muster in quality.
Do we know if Material World is going to be out again this season? I’ve not heard of her having been retired, but it’s getting on for 10 months since we saw her last. She’d certainly be entitled to line up.

January 17, 2008 at 22:31 #136088UIVMM GC, Material World is entered in the mare’s hurdle at Ascot this weekend.
January 17, 2008 at 22:34 #136091A second glance confirms that she is, with none other than Rupert Walsh booked for the ride.
(I’d normally have made that an edit to avoid the double post, but the display on this thread is goosed!)
January 18, 2008 at 08:54 #136126That’s excellent news, Friggo.
The booking of Ruby raises an eyebrow, though. I’d presumed Colin Bolger was still sidelined following the burying he got from from a ghastly juvenile filly at Lingfield a fortnight ago, but I notice he’s got plenty of rides booked at Towcester on Sunday.
I’m not aware of any split between him and Suzy Smith, and indeed there probably hasn’t been one, but in stark contrast to the rest of what’s been his best season for ages it is noted that he’s 0-18 on his rides for her.

January 18, 2008 at 09:18 #136128I’d be surprised if Sweet Kiln runs at the festival.
The Bowes could keep her at home for Fairyhouse 2 weeks later.
January 18, 2008 at 09:26 #136130Sorry about that link. I have no idea why its not working. Suffice to say its a countdown to 1400 hours, March 11th.
At present it stands at just 53 days, 1276 hours, 76593 minutes, 4, 595, 600 seconds.
And I’m counting doen each and every one of those!
January 18, 2008 at 09:51 #136134Henderson quoted in the RP saying there’s no way that Amaretto Rose will go in the Mares Hurdle as it’s run over 2m 5f and she barely stays 2m. If she goes to Cheltenham it’s in the Champion Hurdle (ref: Totesport Trophy Hurdle, Segal, 17th January 2008).
January 18, 2008 at 09:58 #136135aphardy – if you delete the link, this page should sort itself out again cos the RHS of this thread is being cut-off – for me anyway.

When interviewed after Leopardstown they said Cheltenham was a target- I’d imagine she will run there as a win at the Festival would mean more than 10 graded hurdles at home and she’s now shown she goes ok on good ground. Don’t forget they ran Limestone there despite the ground being against him- Cheltenham has a powerful pull!
