    Fantastic week as usual, lots of highlihts;

    – Being there on Tuesday to see my favourite horse at the moment Hurracaine Fly battle it out with Peddlers up the hill.
    – Tipping the above on BBC 5 live to the nation in an interview with the very lovely Gabby Logan.
    – Losing a winning ticket worth aprox. £30….picked a couple off the floor around me (embarassing I know!) to try to find mine but found a different discarded winning ticket worth £50 odd quid, bonus!
    – The Gold Cup this year will live long in the memory, just watched the race again, simply awesome, will we see a more dramatic sight again than Kuato and Denman turning for home locked together in battle? congratulations to Paul Nicholls for getting there in such fantastic shape.
    – The young pretender Long Run, they’ll never be another Kuato but it will be fascinating to see how much this horse can achieve in the coming years, was please for Henderson to get those 2 winners in what must have been a great hour for him.
    – Big Bucks versus Grands Grus living up to it’s billing, Quevega just doing her thing.
    – The festival is a tad bloated now and the dilution of some of the races isn’t ideal but it’s still by a long way the best sporting week of the year, I was dragged along to watch Villa v Wolves yesterday and got stung £35 for the privelege, £32 got me in on Tuesday, guess which was the better day?!

Few races have stirred the juices, warmed the cockles, weakened the knees and lumped the throat to the extent the Gold Cup did; it was a truly fabulous race and the result so exquisitely ‘right’

Will the circle be unbroken? The younger generation will always eventually eclipse the old, but by gum this generation of the leathery old gave the sleek young a proper fight…over to you Long Run

It’s of no consequence and it’s all a bit daft, if fun, but Denman has replaced Wayward Lad at the top of my ‘favourite horses’ list…the way he loomed…by god, the way he loomed…then galloped…and jumped…and stayed. What a privilege it is to watch him

To reprise a post from this time last year: surprise of the week and value of the week was Big Buck’s going off at 10/11. There is something about the Stayers’ that decrees the winner starts at huge odds: Baracouda, Inglis Drever and now Big Buck’s :?

I’ll leave it to Graysonscolumn to purple-prose Kercabellec at Huntingdon :)

The moment in the Gold Cup when they turned for home with Kauto in front and starting to go away and I thought maybe just maybe he can do it!

Ditto regarding the Gold Cup sentiments already expressed. Other highlights, the Neptune was a real spellbinder, Richard Hoiles, Get Me Out Of Here getting beaten, The Guardian Blog (written by enthusiasts for enthusiasts), RUK, Derek O’Connor, Steve Clements post race interview (the

    real

corinthian moment of the week), Willie Mullins, the betting markets (where the cartel seemed to forget themselves for a few days).

A week of pure escapism. 8)

When Denman and Kauto rounded that bend neck and neck my heart was in my mouth – thought we were going to get the finish we had wanted 12 months ago.

Noble Prince too – Thursday was the only day I couldn’t make the festival, but found time to watch the Jewson, scared the hell out of my friend, my celebrations were about as exuberant as Nolan’s!

Proper pocket talk, but for the bumper me and some fat man dressed as a horse I’d not met before both backed Destroyer Deployed e/w at 66s. Got a bloody fortune for it being second!

The way Quevega finishes just amazes me every time.

Big Buck’s, obviously, just what a horse. Really deserves the place in history he’s earned himself.

Also, after losing the ride on Hurricane Fly (who was excellent) lovely to see Paul Townend get a festival winner too.
