TheTinMan87, they couldn’t be that important when he goes and sticks Patrick on Salvator Mundi. A horse well known to be highly talented but an extremely difficult ride.
March 9, 2025 at 16:28 #1722294The Donnellys probably know Salvator Mundi isn’t going to win anyway – wore a hood, grakle noseband, ring bit and tongue tie last time and even with all that on his face, Townend still “had to drop him in close and make him jump badly” (???) to avoid getting run away with. I’d say Patrick is there as muscle to try to anchor the horse, plus as a thank you to the trainer for having the #1 jockey on State Man in the CH.
Mullins Snr and Jr, and the owners, know it’s a delicate game of give and take wrt race placement and jockey bookings to keep everyone happy and they do it well.March 10, 2025 at 11:41 #1722365Mullins said on Racing TV: “She worked nicely last week but I was happy enough that State Man worked better than her. Paul was not going to ride her in the Champion Hurdle so the obvious thing to do was go for the Mares. It’s disappointing as it had been the plan to run her in the Champion Hurdle for two years but after her work the other day we felt she would just be a runner.”
March 10, 2025 at 11:49 #1722366And on today’s Racing Post website Willie says:
“It’s disappointing as it had been the plan to run her in the Champion Hurdle for two years but after her work the other day we felt she would just be a runner. She’ll get her chance to meet those horses – maybe at Aintree – but my duty this week is to get winners for owners and her best chance of a win is in the Mares’ Hurdle. Rich makes a big investment in the game and everyone wants a winner at the festival.”March 10, 2025 at 15:20 #1722391Her best chance of a win would always be the Mares Hurdle so kind of contradiction to having a two year plan
I think the Mares is the right race as the distance suits herCharles Darwin to conquer the World
March 10, 2025 at 17:12 #1722419Elliots lot seem to think there’s can beat CH , prob daft but I’ve backed State Man e.w as he’s just to big in my eyes , if she does go to war with CH and he confirms he still is a monster then State Man might well get 2nd , I just can’t get the mares poor race here last year out of my mind ….. Beef or Salmon …
March 10, 2025 at 17:46 #1722423One to watch unfold. I’m on team Constitution Hill and pray the race doesn’t fall apart.
Burdett Road and Golden Ace are no mugs, so it’s far from a weak renewal outside of the top three. Lossiemouth dodging does take away from the race, though.
March 10, 2025 at 17:51 #1722427I agree with you peter and will go for the FC Constitution Hill to beat Burdett Road or Golden Ace into 2nd. The mare is way too short at 2/1 and there are question marks surrounding State Man. But I’m quite sure the Festival brings the best out of him.

March 11, 2025 at 15:45 #1722685I expect CH to win , State Man to follow him and the mare to fall in a hole …. I’d love to see hill off the bridle … What’s there ..

March 11, 2025 at 15:56 #1722691… Not a flock of seagulls … Has a defending champion ever been such a big price ?
