Playing devils advocate, they could win both this year if CH isn’t at his best (and he’s probably missing the Fighting Fifth so that wellbeing is a huge if this season). Townend gets to ride both. If Ricci is persuaded that State Man is better than her I think he’ll be content with her being standby right up to the last minute just in case anything happens to State Man ala Faugheen/Annie Power but with another mares being the likely target.
November 23, 2024 at 09:47 #1713644Lossiemouth NR today. Now there’s a surprise. ;o)
November 23, 2024 at 10:12 #1713647I’d love to be wrong and we get a great race between State Man, Lossie and Constitution Hill in March that we as racing fans can get excited at. Sadly the reality is the jockey gets a big say in what happens/where horses go, owners want the best jockey so they go along with that etc They are both going to want Townend probably aren’t they? He’ll want to ride both. The only way I can see both running is if she’s a lot better than him and Constitution Hill does come back from his sick bed and that’s mainly because he (State Man) has got nowhere else to go and he’s the defending champ.
November 23, 2024 at 10:48 #1713668“I hope not green. I’ve got my eye on Sir Gerhard for the County Hurdle and hoping for a solid enough run without troubling the main protagonists.”
I know, when I saw his mark of 150 I thought I’d look up what Arctic Fire won the County Hurdle off and it was 158. Stable tour said they might mix hurdles and fences but he doesn’t like fences and it might mess up his hurdling technique a bit. He’d better not get too close to Brighter Days Ahead as handicapper might base the race assessment around her considering she is fit and trying.
November 25, 2024 at 11:03 #1714031I’d love to see a modern day Alderbrook turn up and give them all a hiding……..
From memory, the Champion Hurdle picture was equally murky back in autumn 1994, which is what made them think about it…….
November 30, 2024 at 14:10 #1714434I wouldn’t Andy. I was sitting pretty with ante-post bets on Danoli and Large Action that year.
Then, a month before the race I was at Wincanton when Alderbrook won the Kingwell.Value Is EverythingNovember 30, 2024 at 17:09 #1714472The top 4 in the betting top price
Sir Gino 5
Lossiemouth 5/2
Constitution Hill 9/2
State Man 4I won’t type in the worst prices…
Wouldn’t touch these with NRNBOne of Sir Gino or State Man won’t run
Constitution Hill is one false step away from retirement
Lossiemouth wins the maresBlackbeard to conquer the World
December 1, 2024 at 14:53 #1714536I reckon she’ll be here after that , if she runs in the mares it’s the surest thing at a festival for years
December 1, 2024 at 14:55 #1714537You’d think so
Owner should demand she runs hereBlackbeard to conquer the World
December 1, 2024 at 15:22 #1714541She will. Even if CH returns and wins at Xmas. Ricci ‘let State Man win’ last season, he’ll want to win it this time if she wins the International Hurdle next as expected.
December 2, 2024 at 03:16 #1714560Put her up at 8/1 in Cheltenham bets thread before Cheltenham festival started this year.
Hopefully she stays fit and arrive at the race
December 28, 2024 at 16:01 #1716845Willie has just been interviewed on RTV and said that this season’s Champion Hurdle has been Lossiemouth’s aim for over a year; one defeat over a sharp track hasn’t changed their minds yet, but she’ll have another run before a decision is made.
December 28, 2024 at 16:18 #1716850Lots of talk about Lossiemouth – I am pretty sure they’ll come back to Cheltenham for the January trial and if she hacks up there again I reckon they’ll stick to the Champion route. No one’s mentioned what a fine run Burdett Road put up. RPR had the winner at 162 so he’s run to around 153- 20lbs higher than his Greatwood mark . He’s still only a four year old so lots of scope there.
December 28, 2024 at 16:55 #1716858And BR lost his back legs at the final hurdle, otherwise he’d have been a couple of lengths closer to Lossiemouth. I assume they will come here with him, in which case I think he’s a decent ew bet, now they know they have to ride him like Make A Stand…
December 28, 2024 at 21:25 #1716897If Burdett Road runs like Make A Stand, he’ll be a sitting duck for Constitution Hill. There’s a strong probability that Lossiemouth will be taken off her feet in the process…
December 29, 2024 at 10:58 #1716927Cheltenham will suit her more , she got beat fair and square but she got as nearer to CH than any other horse has
December 29, 2024 at 13:24 #1716941If CH runs again before the Festival it’ll be in the International where Lossiemouth could also go.
