“What a disgraceful comment by Mullins about Henderson.!”
Just before Constitution Hill had his setback, Henderson was filmed with the horse and he said to him “Who’s State Man?”
Maybe Mullins thought that was disrespectful, even if said in jest.
March 12, 2024 at 15:55 #1684953LD the vicinity of Luccia is telling , State Man had to work today CH never has , did everyone here Nico’s “no comment ” when walking in , that says everything
March 12, 2024 at 15:58 #1684954I find trash talking your opponents in sport tedious whenever it takes place, but think it is more jarring after you’ve won. Shame Mullins couldn’t have been a bit more gracious.
March 12, 2024 at 15:58 #1684955The most important ability is availability; State Man might not display the electricity of Faugheen or Annie Power, but he keeps turning up and winning efficiently
March 12, 2024 at 16:08 #1684961Luccia would at least give Henderson backers for the rest of the week something to cling onto, she’s run a belter considering she was too keen and given the yards form and thoroughly rewarded the owners decision to run her here not a handicap which Henderson was commenting on plenty in the build up like he didn’t agree.
March 12, 2024 at 16:09 #1684963Luccia ran an amazing race on unsuitable ground.
Had her backed for the County and she’s got to have been an absolute banker based on that.March 12, 2024 at 16:14 #1684965I don’t know about a banker, she does get 7lbs in a Champion Hurdle and State Man’s almost certainly run below himself, not judged by her necessarily but Colonel Mustard only got beat 11L. She’s definitely improved but they say you need a stone in hand to win a festival handicap sometimes and she’d have been entitled to win the Champion Hurdle the way it panned out if she did.
March 12, 2024 at 16:23 #1684975Lossiemouth would have very competitive in this
March 12, 2024 at 16:25 #1684979Yes but Mullins goes the route of best chance to win more races.
Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Lossiemouth stays the Mares route for the next 4 or 5 years if State Man is still hot or Constitution Hill returns to his bestCharles Darwin to conquer the World
March 12, 2024 at 16:27 #1684982He will and it’s a bloody shame , I’d love to see her have a pop at State Man
March 12, 2024 at 16:33 #1684985I don’t think he will. I think she’ll be kept away from State Man to begin with next year but I think she’ll be targeted towards the Champion Hurdle properly.
March 12, 2024 at 16:45 #1684990Workmanlike and that’s all one can say…..he beats who turns up, but they’re not very good. The worst crop of 2m hurdlers I can recall – and it’s not going to get better…..
March 12, 2024 at 16:56 #1684994It won’t get better until the Hill is retired or shows signs of frailty or age on track. This setback might convince others to have a crack but more likely horses will just go over fences if hes at his best, just look at that arkle today half of them aren’t up to much over fences but they’ve gone there as the doors firmly shut in this division. Even State Man got schooled over fences apparently and he was horrible at it.
March 12, 2024 at 17:04 #1685000Willie stating the obvious with his turning up comment, personally don’t see a problem with it – probably also a little fed up with CH being shoe horned into the conversation after his horse had just won a Champion Hurdle.
Most horses will struggle to look impressive on this type of ground…it is more a case of which ones can cope with it best as no horse really wants heavy ground and those that really can’t cope with it run way below form and those that can run above it.
Luccia has won twice of soft ground and also placed twice on it, so it wasn’t a massive surprise that she was able to cope with the ground well enough today and as they went steady it turned more into a burn up from 2 out where everyone was still in contention (even Iberico Lord who PU just before the last). She has obviously run above herself but conditions played a massive part in that run. Clearly the form isn’t worth much due to how close certain horses finished but this was more a case of State Man getting his due reward.
Hendo’s form is getting worse with Luccia the only one of his runners so far today that has actually finished their race.
March 13, 2024 at 00:16 #1685155State Man won, as expected. Struggling to get excited about it.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 13, 2024 at 12:29 #1685309The performance was rated by the handicapper at 160 …ouch
