There’ll be plenty of improvement from this run from Hurricane Fly – hard not to be impressed with Solwhit though.
November 15, 2009 at 15:32 #258777That Solwhit and HFly are currently the same price for this is nonsense. Solwhit left him for dead. We knew he had the stamina for the Cheltenham hill, and now we know he has the speed aswell. At this very early stage he looks like the one they all have to beat.
November 15, 2009 at 15:53 #258785Wouldn’t be too concerned about HF’s run. He came on buckets for his reappearance in the Royal Bond last year and I’m sure he’ll be better next time out. Willie’s interview on ATR this morning would have hardly filled you with confidence for today.
Solwhit was fierce impressive though. Big player for the Champion Hurdle.

I love it when people write shyte on here If I was Wullie Mullins I would be over the moon with the way Hurricane Fly ran there.
I wouldn’t be very happy with the jockey mind you. Had that been Ruby on board he wouldn’t have been on the horses mouth like that. Thought the jockey gave him a shocking ride failing completely to settle him…….. Ruby would have dropped his hands and settled him much better for starters.
The fact he never settled and it was the first time he’s taken on decent horses who most likely were fitter than him, he’s ran a cracker.
I did warn you fans of his it’s a whole different world when you take on the big boys and beating bad novices can flatter a horse.
That said he’s come up against 2 good animals and run well. He is flashy and highly strung so I wouldn’t be worried as he beat himself today with some help from his jockey, I’d take the positive out of that race and think he’ll be a danger to all come March.
November 15, 2009 at 16:58 #258799Solwhit should be 5/2 favourite for the CH after that. He has it all.
Hurricane Fly didn’t do too badly today but the fact is that he had no right to be Champion Hurdle favourite before the race today. He’s not a no hoper but I think 10/1 would be about the right price for the CH

I don’t think anyone has said he ran badly. He probably ran up to his best form of last season

Up to his best? You would have no idea whatsover what his best is and that’s the problem with him.
I’ve see dozens of Champion Hurdlers getting beat by horse that come March don’t finish in the same county as them.
Katchit was a classic example.
Wullie Mullins would go into that race today with one objective/attitude. Get a run into him and if he wins good if he doesn’t no harm done.
You can almost be gauaranteed if HF and Solwit meet again around Xmas the places will be reversed.
Solwit is a nice horse, he even beat the Champion Hurdle winner (on heavy ground) but on good ground at Cheltenham I doubt id he’d finish better than 4th.
We won’t know how good HF is until he runs in a decent race and is fully fit. Then if he is beaten you can say it was all hype.
Anyway none of them will get near Binocular this year wait and see.

You are confusing me Fist…
Anyway, he possibly did empty a little through lack of fitness but was Solwit considered to be totally up to his game too? Trainer indicated not and the closeness of Muirhead (taken literally) puts a dampener on things. Ok 4 horse race and so on, but if HF was really a 3/1 or even 5/1 shot now for the CH, you would have wanted to see more than that. Its all very well assuming this amount of fitness and that but sometime WYSIWYG

Which is why I said "He

ran up to his best form
of last season

November 15, 2009 at 20:02 #258823Now huricane fly has been shown up i wonder if Fenton is thinking more about the Champion for Dunguib. He’d only have to show up to win after all.
Wish i could get some inside info and snap up all the fancy prices about the champion hurdle!
November 15, 2009 at 20:50 #258839Dunguib will need a hell of a lot more experience if he is to tackle the Champion. Has beaten nothing so far and probably hasn’t learned anything from his 2 races. Needs to take on some top quality opposition sooner rather than later.
November 15, 2009 at 20:57 #258843Very much doubt Fenton will send Dunguib down the Champion Hurdle route. He’s not the kind of trainer to take chances like that with his horses.
November 15, 2009 at 20:58 #258844Some extra experience will help for sure. Hopefully he races in a better quality race over christmas time.
He has beaten some good horses though. The bumper he won so emphatically was full of winners. Some had won bumpers with double penaltys and things and he just wiped the floor with all of them.
He has an amazing engine and providing he continues to jump fluently i can envisage him getting to the lead of the champion hurdle on the bridle. He’s different class.
November 16, 2009 at 08:15 #258879There’s plenty of horses who can win Bumpers under double penalties – most of them amount to being average handicappers. He’s done nothing wrong thus far but he’s quite a way off Champion Hurdle standards.
Your luck is very much appreciated TAPK – and congratulations on Celestial Halo’s win in his Champion Hurdle at Wincanton a week or so ago
November 16, 2009 at 11:54 #258911Interesting to hear Tony McCoy say before yesterday’s race in Ireland that he is quite happy to be partnering Binocular.
However, stamina and that hill still remain an issue.
I was very impressed with Solwhit’s performance yesterday, even though I believed the early front running tactics did not suit Hurricane Fly one bit.
That said, Solwhit was rated 8Ibs higher than the Mullins horse before the race – and as it turned out, not without good reason. He’ll play a big part at Cheltenham, as will Celestial Halo – again.

November 16, 2009 at 11:56 #258913Wouldn’t normally dream of having an ante post at this time of year, but am going to have a small ew on Go Native at 33/1. May be a horse that comes good at that time of year and I would assume will be aimed at this race. Also a small ew on Walkon, because although he is supposed to be out for the season it was mentioned at the preview evening that there is a slim chance he could be back for the New Year.

It depends what Tony McCoy thinks about the horse prior to Cheltenham which will decide it.
He was far from happy from what i have been told, in the build up to the CH last March.
