The Ground was described as DESPERATE, as usual the bookies have over-reacted, Zaynar @ 8/1 is now a cracking good each way bet to nothing.

I opposed Zaynar today, simply because of the price on that going,on better ground I’m pretty sure we’d have seen a different result.
I agree totally about the price for the Champion.
He is starting to look like good value.February 18, 2010 at 15:56 #277601If Zanyar wins the Champion Hurdle I’ll eat his dung!!!
BTW I was in the process of putting an EW bet on Quwetwo this morning (See earlier today in this thread) just when the 5th horse was taken out.
Ladbrokes have this new window that opens to let you know if there’s a non runner while you are placing your bet, when it said, EW no longer available I cancelled the betIf I’d just been five minutes earlier

Zanyar EW Bet To Nothing? You’ve obviously found a bookie who is paying the first 6 places. PLEASE share his name with the rest of us!!!
February 18, 2010 at 16:11 #277606A few thoughts from my post this morning that might be crumbs of comfort to Zanyar fans……
Although this should be a penalty kick for Zabyar it’s worth noting that, a few weeks ago,Paul Carberry was riding for the Howard Johnston stable for a few days, on the Saturday JHJ had Tidal Bay in The Cleeve Hurdle (Won) and Quwetwo at Doncaster (Meeting eventually abandoned) Of the two, Carberry chose to ride Quwetwo who runs against Zanyar today. Interesting?
…..Paul Carberry must have though something of Quwetwo

Got to agree with the cheltenham specialist, the 1st testing race of the year for zaynar I dont think he was good enough he now has no form what so ever this year 8/1 is still too short on his efforts this year,
thought he looked novice like today
February 18, 2010 at 16:31 #277610Zaynar may well have been beaten and his price lengthened but …………….
I predict that his price will shorten up between now and Cheltenham and that Barry Geraghty will still ride him in preference to Punjabi.
February 18, 2010 at 16:45 #277617Just checked The Kingwell Hurdle field….nothing to worry The Irish there either I wouldn’t think
Surely Philip Fenton must be thinking hard about The Champion now

Speaking entirely through my pocket, I hope not. Dont want to start the week Two ton down
February 18, 2010 at 17:06 #277626Have just watched the replay on http://www.attheraces.com
and Zaynar ran a good trial. His jumping looked ok to me.
He travelled well for most of the race. My impression is that Nicky Henderson had left a lot to work on as he said the horse was blowing hard after the race and the winning rider said Zaynar was blowing down the back straight. He will come on a ton for this race and having backed him in umpteen perm bets am not disheartened at all, just wish I had him at the 8/1.February 18, 2010 at 17:24 #277633When do we hear about Zaynar’s muscle problem.
All joking aside, i think we need to give some consideration to the winner, i thought he could be some horse, looks a very good horse, was on my 10 to follow this season actually.

He’ll need to, he got a real rousting from Barry and the Kelso hill is a good test for The Festival, he was never going to get any closer either

February 18, 2010 at 18:02 #277643HL about that EW Chelts. I’m not sure how bad that run was from Zaynar, first impressions are that the ground didnt suit and the horse could use more work. That being said I think we have just seen a decent type in Quwetwo and is one to watch in no uncertain terms. With regards the festival I wouldnt put Zaynar out of the picture but with doubts over the Go Native form line and question marks over Solwhits preferred ground I’m wondering if we should be looking outside the first few in the betting? Punjabi and Celestial Halo form lines dont strike me as good enough to win this so I turn my attention to the likes of medermit for EW value? Shoot me down then……

I though he was given a really hard ride and couldn’t close on a horse that obviously wanted further than today’s trip

Agreed He’ll make a very decent chaser,RSA type next year maybe, he must have been showing something at home re Paul Carberry’s riding choice.

I’d half dismissed him after his previous run, now he’s right out of the picture IMO
but with doubts over the Go Native form line and question marks over Solwhits preferred ground I’m wondering if we should be looking outside the first few in the betting? Whatever wins it’ll be Irish as will the first six or so home I’d say, Donna’s Palm is far superior to any English runner and, nice horse though he is, I really can’t see him troubling the judge in this field
That said, I’ve put the race to one side There’s no point to me in wasting anymore time on the race until we know the going and even more importantly, who is running? Dunguib? Voler La Vedette? Both connections must be seriously reconsidering in the aftermath of Nicky Henderson’s "bad horse week". Either would jump to the head of my short list if they ran
February 18, 2010 at 18:42 #277647I’ve been thinking for a while now that Medermit ew seems to be the only consistently sensible bet to be had but, as yet, haven’t backed him.
February 18, 2010 at 18:55 #277654I wasn’t sure Quwetwo handled Cheltenham at all. Watch him come down the hill in the Ballymore. Immediately needs to be rousted along.
February 18, 2010 at 19:05 #277658Want a real outsider with Grade 1 form?
Try WON IN THE DARK 409 Betfair, or so it says on ATR site.
100-1 with various bookiesCheck his form, bits and pieces are very good, Fighting 5th although that was a strange race, 1/2 behind Solwhit in another.
He lost his way after high early promise but his facile win on Wednesday will have done his confidence a power of good, might be a good EW especially if the two with the biggest of the Irish chances miss the race
