Its the beauty of this game. We all know nothing…we only think we know everything. As a cheltenham specialist surely you understand the importance of course form?

Hope you guys have got room for another arm…..put mine on the menu, Go Native is never going to beat Solwhit

Oh dear another one who cant see Solwhit is as dependant on soft ground as much as your shoe laces need your arm!I"ll have your balls on the table "Cheltenham" and feed them to you through a straw! To compare Go Native and Solwhit is like comparing a 6f horse with a 11/2m horse running over 7f?? work that one out!

Last year Punjabi went off at 22-1, largely ignored by punters and I can see the signs that it is happening again. Ignored for more hype horses who do not have the all important course form (Solwhit).

Last year Punjabi had won the Fighting Fifth and had looked like he might win the Christmas Hurdle, till he fell. This year has hasn’t won or looked like winning anything. In addition, none of the horses he beat last year have upheld the form and finally a significant number of his current rivals do have course form…Go Native, Medermit, Kyber Kim and Zaynar.
    16/1 looks about right.

His opponents last year had course form. Binocular, Celestial Halo, Crack Away Jack, and he did em’. Just better than them.

The poor run of Halo leaves a question over the amount of pace up front in the race, that’s the concern, the form of those with course form is all weaker than Punjabi’s, who….ah yes….WON the champion hurdle.

A win in the Kingwell and it’s game on. Only the horse can let us know though. I think Solwhit is classier tbh, for him ground isn’t an issue it’s just whether he gets the chance to out-battle the bridle monkeys up the hill. Think he and the current champ will be okay with that task, so long as the pace is solid.

Sorry to keep asking you these questions but is Walkon having stem cell treatment as well/ I’m assuming that, as they though there was a slight chance of getting him back for this season, they were just resting him.

I will find out Mo, i havent seen Walkon for a couple of weeks, he will be having continued hydrotherapy and exercise in the walker, but im not sure what treatment he is having at present besides the fore-mentioned.

I dont think many people really know what problems Walkon had even when he was winning the races that he had, he has had a lot of problems.

Shabby, Go Native is my idea of the winner I just felt Punjabi was overpriced. I could be way off the mark but hey-ho, it wont be the first time!

No problem, dough’ just have it in my head that last years race wasn’t as good as many (myself included thought at the time).
Cant see any of last years finishers winning this time..but similar to yourself, I have been wrong many, many times before.

The first twelve home last year have, (over hurdles) posted just two wins from a total of 32 runs. Chasing, or big weights in handicaps lie in store for them.

Non-stayers, mares, 5y-os, the previous Supreme winner and novices will win it once in a blue moon. And as Medermit’s trainer already seems to be schooling him over fences I’d suggest even he’d be surprised if he won.

That leaves us with Khyber Kim and Solwhit, who seems reliant on a bit of cut.

It’s often said that KK is best fresh…….let’s hope he doesn’t leave the CH at Newbury.

What has surprised Alan King is the fact that Medermit is the Key horse to the Champion hurdle, his 2nd to Go Native initially looked like a typical Supreme Novice hurdle result. This seasons form shows that was a fantastic race and one could argue Medermit should have actually won,he met all sorts of trouble in running, where as Go Native cruised round the inside! His first run when giving Khyber Kim 3lb at Cheltenham again in hindsight looks even better now,and then on Saturday he only goes and beats the Champion comfortably on ground neither would like!Solid e/w bet at 16/1,i for one have invested, just to cover any Celestial Halo losses, should he fail on the day!Celestial though did give Medermit and Khyber Kim 4lb at Cheltenham this year,so i"m not giving up on him!Just protecting my stakes hopefully!

I’m looking at Go Native and Khyber Kim for this. Solwhit lacks the Festival experience that 13 of the last 15 winners all had. Only Alderbrook and Make A Stand were lacking in that department. Solwhit strikes me as a Mac’s Joy type horse who dominates over in Ireland but isn’t quite good enough over here. Ironically Mac’s Joy posted exactly the same form figures as Solwhit’s done this season (1311) and won the same 2 Grade 1s that Solwhit’s won on his last 2 starts, but Mac’s Joy lacked Cheltenham experience and finished 5th. He was beaten 4 1/2L by Brave Inca that day and the following year the deficit was only 1L. Read into that what you will.

What bothers me about Khyber Kim is that his form’s been pretty poor. Celestial Halo beaten out of sight in Ireland, Medermit confirmed the form with Punjabi in the Haydock Trial, surely the worst prep race for any race ever. Even Afsoun had a shout a couple out. And that was getting weight. Noel Meade may have a pretty abysmal Festival record but Go Native has looked a pretty class act so far and I expect he’s still got quite a bit of improvement left in him.

I can’t agree Solwhit is ground dependant but any race where stamina comes into it seems to bring the best out in him. Just can’t see him being out of the first three at Cheltenham with a guaranteed strong pace and the stiff track he must go close. That said he has beaten Sublimity twice and that isn’t exactly what I would regard as superform that makes him some sort of good thing.

Big alarm bells ringing now with regards to Khyber King’s chances as his defeat of Celestial Halo looks worth a lot less now..

The talk was Celestial Halo was fit and ready for Saturday but the performance was shockingly bad. I’ve a feeling he won’t go to Cheltenham, be given a long rest and brought back next season over fences.

Have to agree about you clutching Gord….Medermit just doesn’t look good enough. He has fighting qualities but does he have the engine to get him into the race?

Celestial Halo, Punjabi and Binocular have all run stinkers this season which gives the impression Solwhit Zaynar Medermit and Go Native are a better crop but Binny will put that theory to bed come March.
