Douvan 3/1 Paddy Power
I know you all will say the race is a year away, a billion things can happen, no value, etc, etc
but get what you can on now, he will win the Arkle doing summersaults, cartwheels, star jumps and spring rolls
Mullins and Walsh will say he is the best ever trained/ridden
Faugheen will go on and win the Champion Hurdle and Un De Sceaux the Champion Chase at which will be the point Rishi Persad will say to Ruby ‘who you going to ride next year’?
Ruby and Mullins will keep the cards close to their chest
I see two options for Douvan regard next year, he wont be running in the Ryanair that is a non championship race and Ricci has used common sense in not running Vautour in it this year as he is a championship horse and the same can be said for Douvan
so we are left with the QMCC or going back to hurdles but Ricci already has Faugheen for that and the natural progression for Douvan would be the Champion Chase and even with UDS in the yard they would be crazy to run him anywhere else.
UDS is a monster but Douvan who will be ridden by Ruby has the younger legs and I can envisage him getting a nice lead into the race but unlike this year when Sprinter Sacre gets to UDS but cant get past him Douvan will.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
February 17, 2016 at 11:38 #1233980UDS has the option of going up in trip to the Ryanair if they are that way inclined (he has won over over 2m3.5F twice on soft and heavy ground in France) but his owners come over as a right sporting bunch and I don’t see them ducking the challenge next season (especially with the likely reigning champ).
Nothing has been good enough to get Douvan into a proper battle (he did feel the whip in last years Supreme but only briefy) so we don’t know what he will truely find when pressed – but I do think UDS will be that horse to get him at it, on good ground would expect Douvan to be the quicker horse but in soft or testing conditions I would probably side with UDS (who reveals in it).
Likely if they do clash next year and Douvan clearly comes out on top then the Ryanair becomes more attractive for UDS.
March 8, 2016 at 00:27 #1236626Agree with most of that LD73.
Still 3/1 with Paddy.
In a way it’s a sort of cover as I’m in big on UDS for this years event and if he gets turned over for whatever reason against very good but in all fairness a few years past their prime I would think he might find a young improving Douvan a tougher prospect next year and if Douvan takes the Arkle in the manner his odds suggest the 3/1 will have sailed. UDS may well fall which would be the sting in the tail but hopefully he bolts up and I collect and don’t have to worry about next years event too much.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
March 8, 2016 at 17:11 #1236684Is it definite that Douvan won’t stay? 2-mile Championship is great, but the Gold Cup is the ultimate prize.
I’m just a gold cup junkie, would have loved to see Annie Power, Big Bucks, Faugheen, UDS all having a go
March 8, 2016 at 17:12 #1236685And Moscow Flyer, of course
March 8, 2016 at 17:58 #1236700I cant see why the goal with Douvan wouldn’t be the gold cup.
March 8, 2016 at 18:09 #123670416’s with betvictor if you fancy him for the 2017 Gold Cup.
Personally I see him staying at 2 miles next year, I suppose it depends on by how far Vautour wins this years event, cant see Ricci wanting his two stars clashing next term, I know he has with Djakadam but if Douvan has the pace for 2 miles and Faugheen is back as good as ever he may well try and take the 4 main races out next year. Vautour could of course bomb out and Douvan may well enter the equation if that happens.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
March 15, 2016 at 09:50 #1237572Vautour going for Ryanair has now put the cat amongst the seagulls regards next years targets.
The jigsaw seems to be getting Ruby on as many good ones in as many races as possible what with Yorkhill being re-routed as well.
Now I see Vautour with another year under his belt and a summer of sun bathing to tone his skin aiming for the Gold Cup. Un De Sceaux bolts up tomorrow as does Douvan today in the Arkle. Ruby wants to ride them both next year so one will go Ryanair and one Champion Chase. I cant fathom Douvan going from the Arkle to a Gold Cup although you never know I would think another years strengthening before going for gold but after this mornings surprise you cant rule out the Ryanair….

March 15, 2016 at 22:37 #1237815Mullins said: ”We think he could be a Champion Chase horse or he could be a Gold Cup horse – we just don’t know.”
He must have been pushed for time as he didn’t say the following
Or he could be a Champion Hurdle horse or he could be a Ryanair horse…..

March 21, 2016 at 23:09 #1239326The 3/1 has long gone I managed to get just over £30 on that and a couple quid with Skybet at 5/2
6/4 top price now,
I think he will run here, anything can happen though as like when Faugheen got injured and Annie Power and Vroum Vroum Mag got re-routed but if that happens and/or he runs elsewhere it will work out I’ve lost about 50p a week by the time the tapes go up.
It could become a case of what the going is as UDS didn’t enjoy the quicker going to my untrained eye but would be a force with cut.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
March 22, 2016 at 13:29 #1239375I’m going to say it early!
DOUVAN WONT WIN 2017 CHAMPION CHASE
much like UDS I think it was a very weak Arkle he won and again just like UDS in his Arkle I was not impressed with the win.
When asked Douvan was struggling to pull away from Sizing John who had just been hampered.
And as for Vaniteax, he would have gone very close since Douvan didn’t find much when asked. Just like UDS found nothing against SS when asked!
Seriously think Douvan has been completely overhyped and for me SS should be favourite.March 22, 2016 at 22:42 #1239442Things transpired against Un De Sceaux IMO , that can happen.
Mullins said two weeks before the race that UDS was flying and the race couldn’t come quick enough, did he boil over past peak and in doing so ran below par on the day?
The possible going was highlighted as a possible weakness in the 2016 thread by better judges than myself.
Special Tiara was also a pain and UDS couldn’t get an easy lead like he had at Ascot.
Don’t get me wrong Sprinter was fantastic but for me that wasn’t UDS at his best.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
May 21, 2016 at 23:27 #1247961UDS won over in France and all vibes seem to be that it will be him stepping up in trip which would be the natural thing with being another year older, settling better and unlikely to turn the form around against Sprinter leaving the door open for Douvan from team Mullins for this race.

May 23, 2016 at 21:53 #1248153For those who might not have seen this, there is a link to UDS’s demolition job in the Prix Barka posted on WPM’s website
So much for the arguments that UDS had been over-rated. He positively routed a high class field here, and looks just as good as he has always been – too good to be put in against HF. Unfortunately for UDS, he just ran into the ‘special one’ this spring, and connections seem to have admitted as much when they stated that he just isn’t fast enough to cope with Sprinter over 2 miles. Rather than ‘knock’ UDS, we should be recognising what UDS is telling us, that the Sprinter of 2016 is back in the exceptional category.
If, as I sense, UDS is Ryanair bound in 2017, then we are surely in for ‘Vautour-gate’ Round 2 come March …May 23, 2016 at 22:43 #1248155For me it proved that to be seen at his very best UDS needs plenty of give in the ground in the same way that SS needs quicker ground – interesting that they are now considering the French Champion Hurdle over 3m1f, but as he is a more tractable horse these days it is not out of the realms of possibility that he could last out over that trip.
May 24, 2016 at 08:33 #1248168Over that distance he’ll have the tactical speed to ensure an unconsented lead at least…
