I’m ruling out anything that ran on the Wednesday, they will still be recovering, I certainly am
Edwardstone at 16’s at this early stageCharles Darwin to conquer the World
October 17, 2022 at 18:39 #1618951Agreed, Nathan. I’ve been backing him each-way since before he won the Arkle; can’t see him finishing out of the first three.
October 17, 2022 at 18:47 #1618955The general consensus at the time was the horse was over the top when beaten by Gentleman De Mee at Liverpool.
I’m not so sure.
But Gentleman De Mee and Edwardstone at 14/1 and 16/1 (7/1 dutched) make more appeal than Energaume and Shishkin.

October 17, 2022 at 19:34 #1618966I was a fan of Shishkin but I am very wary of him now.
Backed Edwardstone when he won the Arkle and reinvested some of the winnings on him for this race a few days later.
Energumene clearly should be favourite but Edwardstone should not be about five times the price.
October 18, 2022 at 00:37 #1618971Edwardstone will need to improve a huge amount to get near energumene
Rated 15lb below him and won a poor arkle and will be 9 in march so not sure he is capable of bridging that gap
Gentleman de mee is interesting as such a young horse he is open to huge amount of improvement, if anything is going to improve into a mid 170s horse it could well be him
But energumene and shiskin (if he’s back near his best) set a very high standard that I’m struggling to see any of the others reach at this stage as boring as that is
October 18, 2022 at 04:53 #1618975Energumen, despite winning, was unimpressive at Cheltenham. Perhaps the course doesn’t suit him, as he then turned in a superb performance at Punchestown.
October 18, 2022 at 05:15 #1618977Actually, looking at it again, he was fine at Cheltenham. The race fell apart, but all he could do was stroll home
October 18, 2022 at 15:43 #1619028Yes he won easily, townend knew all he had to do was jump round once shiskin had gone. Could’ve won by plenty further if he’d needed to.
December 1, 2022 at 14:42 #1625293King said initially that Edwardstone would run in the Shloer and they’d take a view as to stepping him up in trip. I like the horse and he’s done well for me punting, but I suspect, with Allaho suffering that injury, that King might fancy his charge has a better chance in the Ryanair, and I have backed him for that.
Greaneteen looks outstanding value still at 20/1 for the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Saturday brings his ideal conditions (he’s 4 from 4 on good, and 8 from 12 right handed). Unless Shishkin is not only over his problems, but also in a high state of fitness, he has some job on his hands at Sandown, and if Greaneteen wins I’d think he’ll be no more than 10s for Cheltenham. He was 4th in the Queen Mother Champion Chase in ’21, albeit not a great renewal, but he was only beaten two lengths. Nicholls believes he’s a much stronger horse now. His mark has gone up 10lbs since that race to 171; 20s is plain daft.
December 1, 2022 at 15:51 #1625304Anyone who thinks Greaneteen can win the Champion Chase must be expecting a bold show on Saturday.
An alternative strategy might be to back him (he’s 7/4) for the Tingle Creek as, if he wins it, anything better than 13/2 for Cheltenham represents better than 20/1 if you invest the entire returns on him for the Festival.
And if he only just scrapes home you might want to think twice about that manual double.
Plus if he gets beat how likely is he to win in March?
Of course if he wins half the track Saturday and is 13/2 or less as a consequence the strategy doesn’t look so clever!

December 1, 2022 at 18:11 #1625316I’ve played the 4/5s about Shiskin , he has a question mark but those prices were too tempting

Still early in the season to be fired into battle, and Mullins jr sounded non committal about today, but I was pleased to read that they thought he blew up on reappearance rather than having some other problem.
I think he has plenty of scope and have taken the 25s ew now in case he springs a surprise today.
December 3, 2022 at 15:03 #162556516’s Edwardstone looks a right bargain now…
