When asked on a horse to follow this season on Matt chapmans chat show On The Line, Patrick Mullins said he really likes Hollowgraphic.
He decided to not ride him on his only race last season at Punchestown because he was ‘very backwards on the gallops’ but he finished second that day. He apparently came on a bundle over the summer and made his reappearance today when backed into 4/6 favourite. He won comfortably and looks a nice type. 17 hands is huge and his big rangy galloping style makes him cover an awful lot of ground each stride.
He was shortened for the Champion Bumper when winning but I am suprised that two bookies (Boylsesports and Bet365) have him at 12/1 which looks big. Willie Mullins confirmed after the race that he’s a Champion Bumper horse and I’ve had to get involved. Of course there are horses we haven’t even seen that will run in the race but that is still a big price for what looks a decent animal, is well regarded and is being aimed at the race.
Hollowgraphic @ 12/1
December 11, 2017 at 12:51 #1331606Seriously seriously impressive- the 2nd doesnt look a mug either, and probably travelled slightly keenly through the race.
Mullins mentioned the ground as a worry-hes handled it just fine, but i would imagine, they wont be worried about going back onto spring ground with him, which is a massive positive.Plenty to come out yet, but he has certainly set the marker.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 11, 2017 at 21:19 #1331674There’s an even better Beat Hollow, Mullins-trained bumper horse coming… Hold tough lads
December 11, 2017 at 21:33 #1331675That’s what the word is anyway. Hollowgraphic done it on the track so far though.
Don’t worry i know who you’re on about

I dont think you could touch stay humble at 20/1, its too short.
I taken some 40s, 36s and 34s about the ricci horse Aione, the 3rd from the PTP came out and ran well for pipe, not sure id go much lower in the prices this far out, mullins will have plenty flip flop between now and then,
If hollowgraphic is 10/1 Downtown getaway shouldnt be 20/1 after that performance FTO, but wouldnt back either, taking 10/1 or less hollowgraphic is not something id consider, impressive yes, but 10/1, really?
December 12, 2017 at 09:32 #1331703Not a mission 10/1 is worth taking now….the Ricci hype bumper horse is yet to come out and win and then swallow up the whole market….
Essentially all guessing right now- @ham yes AIONE is another well talked about…

Thats the only reason i took the big prices as if he comes out and wins he will shorten to a stupid price and ill green out
Cant have an opinion on anything apart from the mags mullins horse, hes been by far the most impressive
December 12, 2017 at 10:29 #1331709Ah i was getting Stay Humbles owners mixed up thought he was RR too…
Its probably a wise position to take, Can’t believe Bang Bang Rosie is the same price as the Mags Mullins horse….

December 12, 2017 at 18:57 #1331766Know him Darren, he also raves about Stay Humble!
I asked him about AIONE when he was flagged up on ATR—didnt put him in his list to follow as couldnt fit him in but did say nice horse.

Posted on another forum, thought it was interesting:
Think I mentioned on here last year that i have a system i use for the bumper. The main aspect of the system looks at when the horse made his bumper debut, the theory being that if they made their debut before the Galway festival and connections resist the temptation of going over hurdles then they must think he or she has a very good chance of winning the Bumper at the festival. The system has been great over the years and incorporates a few other bits as well. Hollowgraphic will be a qualifier on the system and as such Ive added him at 12/1 2pt win and hopefully he gets to the Festival.
In years gone by there are usually 2-5 qualifiers, recent successes:
2017 Fayonagh 7/1 sp (debut May2016)
2015 Moon Racer 9/2 sp (debut April 2014)
2014 Silver Concorde 16/1 sp (debut Jan 2012)There have been quite a few placed horses over the years at decent prices also, from the top of my head i think Yanworth was a qualifier at a big price.
Also just for info purposes Stay Humble who has quite a reputation at Willies is ready to run and should be out over xmas.
December 20, 2017 at 00:21 #1333110Nice one.
This has without doubt been my most profitable race of the festival for the last 3 to 4 years. There are clear target horses, as per post above, they have less likelihood of injury, the speed reads are less complicated and the prices are generally juicy.
It’s worth keeping an eye out for Simon Rowlands ratings on top bumper horses. He had claimintakanforgan right up there even after a couple of poor showings.
I’ve no strong view yet but will have a few dabbles over next fortnight
December 20, 2017 at 06:59 #1333121FYI highly promising bumper winner Downtown Getaway was sold to Anthony Bromley yesterday for £350,000. Goes to Hendo
December 31, 2017 at 23:07 #1335216People might like to check out ‘Didtheyleaveyoutto’ for this. His performance at Ascot looked pretty solid beating a number of fancied runners.
January 1, 2018 at 02:28 #1335230He’s high on my shortlist CNC, but just a shame he heads the market, though hardly a surprise after that Ascot run. He might just make a very serious hurdler.
The other one who interests me for this is Nearly Man. Really caught the eye last week, and reckon he’ll be one for fences in the future. I’d love to see him entered here. He’s not in the betting yet.
January 4, 2018 at 18:34 #1335601Right, here we go.
Willie holds the trump cards at this stage with Hollowgraphic, Stay Humble, Colreevy, carefully selected all at top of the market. However down the betting for some reason is his most impressive bumper horse so far: Minella Encore. This lad has shown a stomach for a battle already and beaten some tasty opponents.
didtheyleaveuoutto runs fast, very fast. This one could be a machine but maybe a galloper loving the flat tracks, not sure yet.
I like 2 horses as a betting proposition at this juncture: crooks peak trained by Hobbs, Chelt win in the bag and beating Tom George’s air navigator who’s no mug, and also the aforementioned Minella encore. I can’t resist a wee each way on stay humble – I’m a sucker for a whisper
Clearer picture in a few weeks…
January 17, 2018 at 13:48 #1337770Good Boy Bobby
Timeform have Good Boy Bobby as joint top rated on their figures alongside the Favourite Hollowgraphic yet he is ranging from 14-20s with the fav under half that.
Two wins have been on soft and heavy going which could make quick going a question mark but he moves nicely and his breeding (Flemensfirth out of a Kings Theatre mare) would say that good ground may even be preferred.
Normally like to have a couple running for me antepost and at the prices think he’s a right good bet.
