Reading the storm in a teacup coverage of racing’s main broadcaster, losing viewers over a period of time , I wonder at what point will the advertising companies who pay premium time rates decide to back off
Any ideas who will fill the void if this does happen ??
Ricky
imo

The parasitic ambulance chasing solicitors – they have no scruples or morals so will advertise anywhere
August 21, 2013 at 21:01 #449078The problem that needs addressing is why are C4 Racing losing viewers Ricky?? Simple, too many adverts at crucial times, the editing of the programme has lost its natural flow.Punters at home need to see every horse in the Parade ring and preferably going down.It just doesn’t happen these days, the programme has a sense of rushing……….As for the Touch screen and highlighting of horses, totally unnecessary.20 yrs ago you wouldn’t see a Bookmaker advertising on TV,now its every break is a Bookmaker so I doubt that
there will be any chance of them withdrawing there support.Of course with Ray Winston telling us to ‘Av it’ between every race we’re gonna oblige aint we my old mucker………Or else!

meanwhile the viewers are getting more hacked off
good innit !!

I never thought it possible, but ‘Geezer’ Ray has been relegated to second in the annoyance stakes by Chris Kamara and that grey haired bloke. Unbearable.
August 21, 2013 at 21:35 #449089The REALLY annoying thing is that, just before the ad, Nick Luck tells us "You won’t miss a thing". Yes we feckin will!!! We will miss seeing the horses in the paddock, miss them going down, miss the build up to the race, see who is sweating up etc etc. There are so many other chances for an ad break – why one JUST before the race!!!
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
August 22, 2013 at 08:02 #449123The 2007 amendment to the 2005 Gambling Act permitted bookmakers to advertise on TV for the first time.
Annoying and/or immoral as they may be, the reality is that these adverts (and funding from Sheikh Mohammed’s comedy-fascist micro-state) are all that keeps Channel Four racing on the air.

August 22, 2013 at 08:48 #449124We must remember the boss of ch4 racing thinks its not organic to show the horses before the race, hence we get yesterday’s poor build up to the international. Even my mum shouts at the tv that she wants to see the horses!
I guess I’m must be an oddball or something for enjoying watching horses cantering to the start lolAugust 22, 2013 at 09:17 #449128Can’t Luck et al commentate in a voice over as we see the runners in the paddock & going to the start? I’m sick of them in their gaudy caravan studio.
As for the adverts, I know they need to be there but I hate them, especially the slowed down expressions & the creepy bookmaker’s clerk. The rosy views of Dubai are annoying, but then one would hardly expect adverts showing slave labour & the belittling of women.August 22, 2013 at 10:04 #449130one would hardly expect adverts showing slave labour & the belittling of women.
Quite. That’s SkyBet’s job.

August 22, 2013 at 18:49 #449204For the record I watched Ch 4 in its entirety today for the racing coverage …and behold the total time wasted /spent on adverts came to 54 minutes
impressive
If you want to watch proper coverage of the good meetings , I am afraid you will have to pay for it
Rubbish coverage in all respects
imo

August 23, 2013 at 16:07 #449275They showed every race at Royal Ascot – not sure how sustainable it is long-term cos not THAT many people watch to watch live racing, but for Me, C4 Racing has NEVER been better.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 23, 2013 at 17:20 #449278Anyone here want to see ad-breaks, try watching some American TV channels. It drove me crazy when I was there and American Football in particular lent itself well to it.
The shape of things to come!!

August 23, 2013 at 18:27 #449285Re. Crepello’s comment re. Dubai / belittling of women etc. Spot on. My post of the month (seriously).
August 23, 2013 at 19:52 #449291Yes, C4 Racing may not be every fans cup of tea but be careful what you wish for. You do have a choice. Pay to watch RUK. We are very lucky in the UK that we have terrestrial coverage of racing on a main channel. In fact we probably have more coverage of racing than any other sport. Not just lucky about the TV coverage we get but the general press coverage is superb. Most countries just don’t get this.
C4 racing is more aimed at the interested fan and casual viewers than the hardened racing nut. The ads, annoying as they are are needed to pay for it. Remember it wasn’t long ago that racing had to pay C4 to cover it.
