Does anyone remember the name of the jockey who appeared regularly for a while on The Morning Line on Channel 4? He was quite a funny guy with a ‘cockney accent’ if I remember correctly and was reknowned for being a bit of a joker in the weighing room. He used to go on stable visits to ride out on certain horses for various trainers and report back to the Morning Line panel. At the time, he was still involved in flat racing, mainly riding in handicaps.

I liked Mattie. He won a big race late on in his career, Hennessey or sumat like that.

Search Youtube for Wocket Woy to get as much Mattie Batchelor as you could possibly ever need. Sixty-nine comedy mini-films of him on there, and counting.

He also made a guest appearance on Hole in the Wall, BBC1’s conversion of the Japanese gameshow Minasan no Okage desita, in autumn 2008. I’d tell you exactly which episode and date, except that the guest list for each episode on Wikipedia contains the guests for the US and Australian conversions instead. Duh.
