£7k.about fair enough for a horse beaten in a claiming hurdle and claiming chase on its last two starts.
It seems completely gone at the game. That debut chase win seems a long time ago.
A change of scenery away from the alleged hard trained regime may rekindle the flames but I doubt it and would expect the horse to disappear from racing.
I’ve never heard of the new owner. How many horses retain ability after leaving Pipe’s?
If I were David Johnson I would be looking to move on some of my older horses and inject new talent.Korelo and Contraband have been sold and I’d be looking at shifting the likes of Joaaci, Marcel and Standin Obligation (the later two not doing much for a move to Montieth’s).
Some of his horses like Abragante, Itsmyboy and the mercurial Our Vic seem to display ability but a fair share of temperament and quirks.
After today I’d also say that Celestial Gold is a has been- pulled up in a hurdle at lowly Hereford and never remotely competitive today.

I wouldn’t totally give up on Joaaci or Standin Obligation as yet. SO showed signs of a return to form up at Newcastle last month and I’m sure if he was low enough rated to run in a Class E race he’d hack up – just needs that rating to come down some, Hunter Chases might suit him too given we know he stays 3m etc.

Any idea what happened to Lord Atterbury who DJ also had with Pipe? Very impressive at Aintree in 2002 I think it was when he beat Arctic Times (another of my favourites, 25 point to point wins and rising every season) and placed in the National (LA that is).

Lord Atterbury has finished fifth and second in two point-to-points at Higham so far this winter, on each occasion partnered by Stuart Robinson for Gina Weare. Prior to that, he was last seen pulling up in a Mens’ Open point at Larkhill just over a year ago.

He still shapes as if capable at that level, though is clearly on the wane at 12.

Adoptive father of two. The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.
