Has finally been retired (a year too late in my view – it was sad seeing him as a shadow of his former self last year) after his disappointing run at Cheltnham on Saturday.
Winner of over £250,000 in prize money he had a 27.78% strike rate, his peak must have been in November 2004 when he took both the Paddy Power and Hennessy.
May he have a long and happy retirement.
October 21, 2008 at 18:22 #185714I’ll second that. Glad connections have finally given up – very sad to see these old stars persisted with when they’re no longer enjoying themselves.
Best of luck to the old boy hunting or whatever he ends up doing.
October 21, 2008 at 19:57 #185731Definately the correct decision.
Hope he has a lovely retirement.
October 21, 2008 at 21:19 #185735He didn’t recover his form after he got injured and was out for a fair while, about 16-18 months. And after his second run at Newbury, last season in the Aon Chase, when Denman ran out an easy winner, they should have called it a day. But good to see they have now made the right decision and retired him. I’m sure he’ll have a great retirement. Good luck to him.
