Circumstantially speaking, this year’s contest must rank highly as the greatest non-NH showdown – at least in my short memory – following the emphatic display of Collection in the CX International Cup Trial yesterday.

Collection vs. Eagle Mountain vs. Presvis
Memories are rekindled of the 2003 renewal, when Luca Cumani saddled the brilliant Falbrav to defeat Rakti and HK Derby winner Elegant Fashion.
Eagle Mountain will resume in this Sunday’s CX International Mile Trial – a similar prep to that of last year when he won the Nayef Joel Stakes in wind-assisted record time, subsequently winning the Hong Kong Cup (with a Breeders’ Cup jaunt splitting those events schedule-wise).
November 16, 2009 at 18:35 #258986Interesting to hear that a strong pace is key to Collections chances in this. Comments i’ve heard are that Collection will be dropped right at the back and come surging with a late run….Sound like Presvis to anyone else?
I think Presvis has the edge here but only if he comes back on Saturday like he’s expected to. A lot can happen when a globetrotting gelding takes a long holiday.
Cant wait for the HK Festival though. It’s one of my favourite meets of the international season

Somehow we will have to accept that one of these grand 1m2f horses will be unplaced in this race.

Whilst likely to contest favouritism with Viva Pataca I severely doubt Youmzain can win as his lack of dash will come right into play on the tighter Sha Tin course.
Unless they set a cracking tempo up front, which has never been the case in the Vase over the years.
November 22, 2009 at 11:43 #259961Eagle Mountain bombed miserably in today’s CX International Mile Trial – beaten 10 lengths by the winner Fellowship.
Whilst jockey Kevin Shea gave no excuses for the poor result, naturally one must assume the rushed preparation off a long break was a decisive factor in this instance.
November 22, 2009 at 13:17 #259981Big fan of this meet also. The 2003 cup with Falbrav, Rakti and Elegant Fashion was one of the great flat races of this decade from purely a quality perspective with multiple grp. 1 winners like Bright Sky and Eishin Preston further back in the field. For those not dyed in wool jumps fanatic this Sunday is a great reprieve and the racing has just gotten better and better over the years. If Vision d’Etat has gotten thru this season in good health he has to figure, especially at this trip. If Collection and Presvis head the market then he might just turn up at a decent price.
November 23, 2009 at 12:09 #260131The fields for the Hong Kong International Races – to be run at Sha Tin on December 13th – are being released on Wednesday.
Of course before then we’ve got Conduit in the Japan Cup to look forward to this Sunday.
November 23, 2009 at 16:16 #260161Thanks for the heads up on the HK fields Adrian.
Surely Conduit has no chance in Japan. Not enough pace and too slow in a finish for that particular race.
November 24, 2009 at 03:37 #260235Races in Japan generally consist of large fields and strong end-to-end gallops so Conduit will have the race at his mercy.
November 24, 2009 at 16:15 #260304Not so sure about that but at 5/2 best price with the bookies in the UK I have no desire to find out.
November 25, 2009 at 17:47 #260454Einstein, the 7-year-old stallion who excells on all surfaces but finished an uncharacteristic 11th in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, is also supplemented to the HK Cup. This Friday he is running in the GII Clark Handicap at Churchill on the dirt, which he won last year. I doubt he’ll go to Hong Kong off such a short rest, but as this is his last year racing, he may opt for the race with more prestige.

S’cuse me butting-in here, no point in starting another thread for the Japan Cup.
Overseas jockey on a Japanese trained horse that has ran well in the Tenno Sko or Kikuka Sho….Easy!
November 26, 2009 at 16:54 #260624November 26, 2009 at 16:55 #260625Vase – strong pace – Purple Moon how far iyo’s
10/1December 1, 2009 at 11:26 #261487A couple of changes, today, to the Hong Kong cards.
Purple Moon is out of the Vase and replaced by local horse Jackpot Delight (Caspar Fownes).
Unique Jewellery is out of the Cup.
Scenic Blast, Eagle Mountain, Cannonball, All Silent, Racing To Win and Apache Cat have all arrived in Hong Kong.
First of the Europeans to arrive will be Borderlescott and Duff (from Manchester) on Friday).
Confront, Presvis, Spanish Moon, Buccellati, Total Gallery and Youmzain arrive on Saturday, whilst Pressing and War Artist arrive on Sunday night.
The French arrive on Saturday (from Amsterdam) or Sunday (from Brussels or Amsterdam).
I’ll be arriving in Hong Kong on Tuesday and will send any interesting updates.
December 3, 2009 at 10:59 #261900Full form guide should be up on site on Saturday when its also hits the OTBs, though there are already extracts against each race on the Racing Info tab on Chantal’s page below.
What I’m really waiting for though is Chantal’s Chinese name, due to be announced tomorrow

December 3, 2009 at 12:49 #261921Sadly Godolphin have pulled out Campanologist from the Vase and Balius from the Cup but apparently Alexandros still runs in the Mile.
