Have seen the Casela Park race, have never seen anything quite like this. Read the Irish Independent article, without knowing the author seemed like he had an axe to grind, seemed generally non-specific stuff.
May want to review the recent fining of Charlie Byrne and the run of Pitoni, regarding recent fines in Ireland.
My guess is that Irish racing is not without issues but not to the extent portrayed in the article mentioned.October 27, 2010 at 23:18 #325021I suspect he was non specific due to Irish libel laws as Matt Chapman almost found out a couple of years ago. I think most people know that certain trainers over here frequently get away with murder, the type of stuff that would guarantee warning off in the UK. While Casela Park looked bad surely the Laetitia run in Cork http://www.attheraces.com/VideoConsole/ … 55&vaff=18 was as bad if not worse. If you go half way down the page on http://www.irishracing.com/blog/blog/20 … ole-unite/ you will find posts about the case of John O’Gorman at the Turf Club Referrals Committee. I have yet to meet a single person who believes he was gambling with his own money – if he was he must be the best paid stable employee in these Isles. The one transaction he lost on was when Solwhit won, you will see many references to the attempts which were made by certain people in the winners enclosure to stop the jockey weighing in that day.
My largest win ever came last year on a mate’s horse who had been ridden with the future in mind in a number of races. The stewards had a word with the trainer, pretty much a warning that they would take action next time. Next run he was backed off the boards and won. Now I can’t complain because I made money on it, but it doesn’t give you confidence in the integrity of the system. I should add that the horse has been gambled twice this year and lost so it doesn’t always come off. - AuthorPosts
