Two cracking races tomorrow.
The first seeing Silsol reappear and the second seeing Salubrious reappear.
I am a great beleiver that the Southern horses are 10lb better than the northern ones and so I think Nicholls will win both.
The only fly in the ointment being Maximiser against Silsol as I think Maximiser could be top class.
If he were trained by a Henderson or Nicholls I think he would be favourite.
We will see but 2 cracking races all the same.November 8, 2015 at 19:11 #1220777I’m really looking forward to seeing Maximiser as well. He looked like he could be anything as a novice hurdler. This is a big test for him tomorrow, having been off for nearly a year, but I agree he’d be shorter if trained by a bigger name.
November 8, 2015 at 19:18 #1220778Can’t wait to see how Seeyouatmidnight gets on over fences.
November 8, 2015 at 19:28 #1220779Unfortunaely VTC I am not a Brian Hughes fan so good luck with Seeyouatmidnight but I think you need a better jockey to get the best out of the horse IMO.
November 9, 2015 at 09:01 #1220853I’m a Maximiser fan myself. Just hoping for a good comeback performance and an intriguing race. If the Nicholls horse runs like his other runners did on Saturday and Sunday, then the race might take less winning than expected.
Good luck to all!November 9, 2015 at 12:27 #1220863Not Brian Hughes’s biggest fan either but surely today he needs to lead and try to make it a real test! Sure to be testing ground up there and being a good winner over 3 miles in testing conditions before means tactics should be straightforward?
Really like the look of Maximiser as a chaser but just feel today may not be his day…a good mate of mine went up to the last open day and it’s clear they think the world of this horse. The lad he was talking to said it had a minor setback though which is why it’s been off for so long…just can’t see them today throwing everything into it today in what look a tricky contest..
Think it’s impossible to tell how fit Silsol will be so for me Seeyouatmidnight looks the bet in the race to me and I’m backing h to make all.
November 9, 2015 at 13:03 #1220865Cheers droffats, Hughes has cost me a few quid in his time, first of all, when he made that horrendous blunder on Attaglance at The Festival, and then he hampered Modem badly at Leapordstown last year, when I was on Modem at huge odds. He owes me a few quid
but to be fair to him, I spoke to him at The Festival Preview night in Hamilton, last year, and he came across as an ok bloke, so can’t have a go st him too much.Hope Zam is right, and it’s straightforward enough for him, on a horse which is one of my favourite horses in training at the moment.
November 9, 2015 at 13:38 #1220871Seeyouatmidnight for me
November 9, 2015 at 13:54 #1220874Good shout, droffats. I was well impressed with Maximiser’s jumping – looks a natural, and very athletic, especially given his size. That long stride and his jumping will win him a decent race
November 9, 2015 at 14:10 #1220875Thought I was sitting pretty with 9/4….still don’t get why Brian Hughes didn’t try and take the race by the scruff of the neck and try to make it a proper test…was never happy sat in 2nd…Maximiser certainly the one to take out of the race for me!
November 9, 2015 at 15:03 #1220889Good call droffats…nice double landed!
November 9, 2015 at 15:59 #1220893Must be the only time that Little Glenshee hasn’t placed when completing [4th] but, as the 8 runner field went down to 7 [as per usual] 3rd wouldn’t have been any good. Are fields always this small at this time of year??
November 9, 2015 at 16:12 #1220895Double for droffats – well done. Interesting theory on the benefits southern horses have coming north – I’ll be paying more attention to that.
November 9, 2015 at 17:52 #1220905VTC Hughes may well be a nice bloke and I have no problem with that however as a jockey in top races he is not for me. He did me on Attaglance that year as well.
Why he did not lead I don’t know, maybe Maximiser is the better horse which I vey much suspect.
It was a good race and all 3 will win races but going forward the front 2 look very good where as Seeyouatmidnight may well be one for the 4 miler at Cheltenham come March.
Salubrious was also very gutsy and hopefully can go on from here.
Still 2 good races to watchNovember 9, 2015 at 18:42 #1220912Yeah, no arguments from me Droffats, didn’t suggest he would be for me as a top jockey either.
Well done on your double
November 9, 2015 at 21:23 #1220920Maximiser was quite impressive today. The time was extremely fast compared to the other races and he jumped every fence foot perfect. Good old Sire de Grugy could learn from how to jump an open ditch.
The winner (Silsol) was rated 158 over hurdles and I think Maximizer was about to be rated in that same sphere without his injury. Well, there aren’t many hurdlers of that calibre in the North anyway. He seems suited by a true test of stamina and clearly relishes a stiff uphill finish. If he improves for the run, he could win a few races on the trot before connections make up their minds for his spring target. I don’t think that Aintree will suit him and he might lack the class for Cheltenham. But anything on testing ground around Wetherby or Haydock should be his for the taking. We’ll see, but I’m excited that he’s back.November 9, 2015 at 22:51 #1220931I’m surprised no one has mentioned Seeyouatmidnight almost coming down on the home turn. That must have cost him any chance of winning. I thought his jumping was excellent and can’t wait to see him in action again.
