<!– s8) –>November 18, 2012 at 13:37 #420241looks a class act and arkle bound
November 18, 2012 at 14:04 #420248It was very taking the way he flew up the hill and he was foot perfect with his jumping.
Nevertheless, Sire De Grugy strikes me as a horse better suited by a flat track and there’s still the matter of a certain Simonsig. Plus Overturn is a seriously fast beast but time will tell how far Captain Conan can go.
November 18, 2012 at 14:47 #420255indeed. theres already been a lot of gash written about this horse on the betfair forum. about how he was too limited as a hurdler to make much impact over fences. about how he’ll be aimed at 2 and a half miles.
how he won’t have the pace for the festival, and other utter tosh.
he’ll be aimed at the arkle (which rides like a normal 2 and half mile race anyway) and he’d be my bet at the moment. he might not be another sprinter sacre, but he’s a lovely chasing type and would go close to winning most arkles.
November 18, 2012 at 15:57 #420263Sire De Grugy definitely acts at Cheltenham just as well as flat or right-handed courses. Today his best run yet.
Captain Conan is undoubtedly built to be a better chaser than hurdler, jumped well and would be easy to see him win something in March. But what? There’s no question about it, Nicky Henderson believes Simonsig is his best novice chase prospect and said he’ll come back in trip to 2 miles. From what’s been said, it’s evident the grey shows the more speed at home. Anyone not listening to this trainer is asking for trouble. As I very well know, having been convinced myself Simonsig had speed to burn, backed him for Cheltenham 2012, for the Supreme Hurdle
. Only for Seven Barrows to split Darlan and Simonsig, with the latter an easy winner of the Sun Alliance. Captain Conan didn’t exactly blind us with speed today, staying on well in the soft ground. Yes, he’ll probably have enough pace for the Arkle, but it’d be a surprise if he doesn’t stay 2m4f too. Therefore, I’d say it is less than 50-50 he’ll even run in the Arkle. Ladbrokes stand out price of 10/1 is only that big because there’s a good chance of not turning up. I’ve backed Overturn anyway, jumped fences brilliantly at Sandown which suggests he’ll be at least as good a chaser as hurdler.May be if wanting to back Captain Conan for the Festival, punters should consider asking William Hill for a "To win ANY race at the Festival" price.
