I’ll be popping a few footy bets and thoughts down on here to keep me interested in the season ahead, only small fun stakes but would like to turn a profit.
Any advice or mockery more than welcome.

I’ve always been really bad at betting on football even though I’m a massive fan. The only bets I’ve turned a profit on are long term ones (premier league winner or top 4 finish etc) or defenders like Kompany scoring first in big games – it’s often best to do this best in-play as this type of goal usually comes in the second half when it’s 0-0 and a corners just been given.
August 8, 2014 at 09:57 #487710Yeah, I like that 2nd half corner thought Ben.
I’ve had a bit of success with Hyypia for L’Pool down the years as first scorer but the in-play sounds a better idea and presumably better odds.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

Yeah exactly I think the odds get slightly better as the bookies think the games could end low-scoring once it gets to the 2nd half. Also defenders take more chances by going up for the corners/free kicks when it’s late in the 2nd half and still a draw.
Will be interesting to see who signs who over the next few weeks!
August 9, 2014 at 09:41 #487843I was only going to have a couple £1 bets today to get the season kicked off and get a feel for things but betvictor have reeled me in with an offer of bet £5 and receive £5 promo cash as a free bet, whether or not that promo offer includes the stake back I don’t know but I’ll stick it on a longshot in tomorrows Community Shield. Right first things first I’ve stuck my fiver on Sheffield United to beat Bristol City as I was expecting them to be odds on. I don’t fancy Bristol City at all for this season although it’s too early to judge and I’ll probably end up with egg on my face but hey, what’s new………

Sheffield United to beat Bristol City – 6/5 – £5.00 – betvictor

August 9, 2014 at 13:11 #487895Sheffield United couldn’t sustain the pressure they had put on City in the first half having gone a goal behind they looked the better side got the equaliser and created more chances but disappointingly showed very little in the 2nd half.

August 9, 2014 at 15:27 #487908I couldn’t see anything I fancied in tomorrows game so stuck the promo cash on Ipswich to be winning at half time at 12/5.

Wishful thinking regards the promo stake but we knew that. Happy to take a profit for the day.+£7.00

August 10, 2014 at 06:31 #487948Purely on the odds I’ll take a chance and throw one of those chunky two pound coins on Wolves to be winning at half time v Norwich. I think Norwich could do well this season but it could be best to catch and take on these demoted sides in the early days.

August 10, 2014 at 16:34 #487986That one went west with the wind.
I expect to see sberry or Mr Wilson back on here soon after Arsenal’s latest false promise.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
August 10, 2014 at 17:03 #487988Swansea to be relegated at 5/1 (888, StanJames) is my main bet of the season so far. They’ve loaned out Michu, lost Vorm and some other senior men and could well lose Bony before the window shuts as well. The manager is a major come-down from Laudrup and I think they’ll be in for a struggle.
I’ve had a couple of quid on Garry Monk to be first manager to leave as well at 12s.
Any views on these markets, Nathan? Good luck with your footy bets!
August 11, 2014 at 11:19 #488005Good luck TYF, I think Swansea will be there or thereabouts at the business end. I went for Southampton to go down for similar reason as they lost a lot of players and will need time to reorganise. I think the promoted sides are usually underrated and start the season well before tailing off when injury’s set in mid term and their squads aren’t deep enough so could be a lay to back in the relegation market for them.

August 14, 2014 at 09:43 #488190Paddy Power’s time to get our attention with the offer of free bets on the top goalscorer market. Stake £20 and get a £2.00 free bet for every goal your selection scores.
I’ll av some of that, be rude not to…..
I’ve gone through the contenders but for me it boiled down to the fact United have no European football this season so their players will be fresh and ready for the PL like L’Pool last year whereas their counterparts will be jetlagged and kicked to pieces all over Europe. Injury’s play a big part in who scores the most goals so the lack of games is an advantage. If Van Persie has a clear run in the team he will get your money back in free bets and be up with the running at the business end and the 1/4 odds for 4 places means you get your money back if he misses out on the golden boot by a few goals.
Top Premiership Goalscorer – Van Persie 5/1 £10.00 each/way 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4
running total -£15.00

August 16, 2014 at 14:46 #488422Bad luck there Nathan. Looks like my Monk/Swansea bets are off to a shaky start too!
August 16, 2014 at 14:57 #488423I should of checked as I didn’t realise RVP wasn’t playing.
Never mind at least you’d think he’ll be thrown back in when fit and as a L’Pool fan it’s never the end of the world when United lose. I’d happily lose a fiver each week on them……
What price Monk for manager of the year?……..

August 16, 2014 at 20:26 #488440I’ve had to take the 2/5 on offer for L’Pool against Southampton. The saints have lost the backbone, influence and class of the side they had last season whilst L’Pool were extremely strong at home last season and I expect that to continue.
Liverpool to beat Southampton 2/5 £20.00
