Biggles @ 25/1
I had an interest on another in the Buckingham palace stakes at Ascot and ITV showed a replay after the race of the last two furlongs from a different angle, which looked to show he might well of been more than a little bit unlucky.
He was the only horse in the top dozen drawn low and had a nightmare run when about ten horses from another group moved across in front of him and he finished full of running really. Just one of those things that happen in these big fields but one to keep an eye out for this season IMO.
June 29, 2023 at 19:45 #1653865There was an Ascot review piece on the Sporting Life website where it said about Biggles…
“Ralph Beckett has always believed ease in the ground is important to the Zoffany gelding who was keeping on in ninth under Ryan Moore last week. The Bunbury Cup at Newmarket (15th July) offers another opportunity for him to plunder a big prize and the stiff uphill climb to the finish will play to his strengths. Any rain during that week would also be beneficial for a horse who has the ability to win such a prize.”
June 29, 2023 at 19:51 #1653866Given the Clerk Of The Course’s propensity for watering whatever the weather forecast, I’d say there’s a fair chance of an easy surface.

Was so disappointed that he didn’t go in The Hunt Cup, that I couldn’t bring myself to bet anything else in it.
Still, that they swerved it for the other race suggested to me that they thought he was a good thing fir it. Certainly had his excuses.
As I said last week, he was always going to be a regular of mine over next couple of years, and only one on my mind right now.
I’d probably be interested in two in this come the day, and The Gatekeeper who runs tomorrow is an interesting type, but no doubt on the day, I’ll go with old regulars Ropey Guest or Snazzy Jazzy if they got in.

Edit Final Decs
Spangled Mac is the one I started coming round to, but with Ropey Guest and The Gatekeeper still appealing, I had to hold off.
Obviously happy that Biggles makes it, but in the type of race that I like a second go, I’m going with a horse who I’ve bet a good few times, Snazzy Jazzy. I’ll bet him to seven places, and hopefully can get 50’s+

Snazzy Jazzy EW 7plsJune 30, 2023 at 13:10 #1653894I can absolutely see why Biggles is of plural shrewd interest in this.
If the CoC acts true to form, the contents of the nearest reservoir will be dumped on the track before and during the fixture so if Ralph Beckett is correct in his assessment Biggles must have a cracking chance of getting his ground.

Despite the above, the weather forecast suggests Biggles could get his ground on Saturday.

July 14, 2023 at 00:41 #1655241This looks like being a very tight one to call, but in the end I’ve went for a 40/60 split with Probe and Spangled Mac
Both of these are around the 20-1 mark, and Spangled Mac is my bigger bet of the two, as he’s really been knocking at the door lately

July 15, 2023 at 11:54 #1655450Spangled Mac each way for me , two good runs at Ascot , I prefer him over 7 .
July 15, 2023 at 12:20 #1655458Another for Spangled Mac.
The more I know the less I understand.
July 15, 2023 at 13:20 #1655471Star of Orion is nicely handicapped , knocking on the door so far this season hopefully he can get his head in front

Both BOGJuly 15, 2023 at 15:05 #1655498I thought this might be Neil’s H’cap for this week. Studied them up
and fancied Spangled Mac but as he’s out my place was Probe. He hasn’t
shown much his last couple but he’s better than that and won a decent
H’cap here back in May. He’s due a return I reckon.Probe 16/1 E/W Bet365
