Brilliant wasn’t it. In his pomp, Barry would have laughed. Barry knows too. That’s why he looked like he wanted to punch Harvey’s head in.
November 17, 2018 at 16:33 #1380817The jockeys at the start should be concentrating on the job in hand rather than being distracted by an idiot with a microphone asking inane questions.
November 17, 2018 at 16:37 #1380818Barry had just come off a massive disappointment. Am sure he’d gone in to the day thinking he had an excellent juvenile hurdler… Whenever any of us have massive disappointment, I think we can be excused not taking well to Luke’s childishness. Personally, I’d rather have a proper look at the horses rather than the same old Harvey comments, anyway.
Value Is EverythingNovember 17, 2018 at 17:27 #1380823Pah, Harvey was having a quip about Barry keep falling off, and Barry knew it. It’s no coincidence that it was being spoken about already, on a thread about the incredibly talented Bryony. The horse Harvey was referring too, Movewiththetimes, watch the race today again. Coming to two out, Barry sits still and leaves the horse to it. At the last he does exactly the same again, nothing, the horse makes up its own mind and takes a crashing fall when booked for third. It happens far to often these days to just be coincidence. He does not ‘present’ them at a fence anymore, and horses now jump terribly for him because of it IMO. He looked like he was going to fall coming to the last today. His confidence is shot to bits.
I’m not a jockey, he does not cost me money, as I will not back any horse ridden by him these days except on very very rare occasions. 9/10 it’s a reason for me too back another horse. I found it very funny what Harvey said to him today. He gets paid a fortune, has the highest paying retainer in NH racing. He should be a great jockey under those circumstances, he’s not anymore. Why should people not comment.
JP is a very very loyal man.
March 15, 2019 at 01:40 #1402145Annoying?
Or is it just me?
Give me Rachael Blackmore any day of the week.
March 15, 2019 at 07:51 #1402152Much to my shame, I did in the early days of her increased media profile wonder if all her wisdom and “life-hackery” sounded a little bit homespun, contrived and twee, and then I read the interview she did for the RP Big Read with Alastair Down in January ’18 and changed my mind. Its well worth a read if you haven’t done so already, David.
Being a jockey is a tough game, a National Hunt jockey in particular, so I hope she makes the most of every opportunity that comes her way.
She deserves it.
March 15, 2019 at 08:43 #1402155No.
But typical less than 24 hours after her biggest achievement and she has to be brought down. Shame on you for asking it cormack15.
March 15, 2019 at 09:06 #1402158How dare she have a personality?
How dare she clearly love her horse?
How dare she enjoy winning?
The race was thrilling and her reaction and interview was lovely. Only a grump could deny that.
March 15, 2019 at 09:33 #1402166I find the way she talks about the horses she rides very refreshing. She sounds like she really cares. Best of luck to her.
March 15, 2019 at 09:39 #1402167Well said Quelle Farce.
Cormack15 are we only allowed 1 female jockey?
March 15, 2019 at 09:57 #1402171Baffled by this. Shes lovely and an absolute star.
What do we want her to act like? Tont mccoy with a heavy cold at a monday morning funeral in the pouring rain?
Front page of the papers today and what a profile for the sport
March 15, 2019 at 10:11 #1402190Lol. I’ll get back into my box!
I suppose you are all correct, she seems to have captured the public’s hearts a little and her enthusiasm is infectious I guess.
I’ll read that article Cav.
Cormack
March 15, 2019 at 10:34 #1402200Nothing wrong with Bryony. The problem is the media’s behaviour towards her. She deserved every plaudit she received yesterday and the next hour spent talking about how many women are making big waves in the sport was warranted if slightly overbearing towards the end of it.
Then Lizzie Kelly has her big moment in the spotlight, further adding to the previous hour talking about female progression. What does she get? She’s asked to talk about Bryony.
The media will become her poison chalace sooner or later. And it’s a shame because she’s so talented.
March 15, 2019 at 12:34 #1402247Obviously you don’t have to like her Cormack, and I would not be surprised if there are not a lot of people who agree with you.
It just seemed the usual reaction to me, that as soon as somebody achieves something they have to be brought down. Also typical of todays social media age.
And to make it a choice between Bryony Frost and Rachel Blackmore was just crass.
March 15, 2019 at 16:02 #1402320The media seem absolutely obsessed with her.
The cynic in me can’t help but suspect that she manipulates this media maelstrom.
She is a decent enough jockey who generally presents a horse well at a fence.
But lets get this in perspective she isn’t even the number one jockey in her own stable.
Too much hype in my view , but each to their own.
It’s not Bryony’s fault , but the Lizzie Kelly interview was truly shocking in it’s sycophancy re Frost.March 15, 2019 at 19:09 #1402371I liked the emotion she showed towards her horse. It reminded me of how I felt on the odd occasion my horse and I did well at a competition. People have such love for these animals why not show it.
March 15, 2019 at 19:33 #1402380Magnificent thread!
When it comes to urinating on people’s French-fries, racing’s followers are truly unsurpassed.
