The fav looked absolutely awful

March 12, 2025 at 14:12 #1723067Starting to remind me a bit of that Royal Ascot that happened a couple of seasons back where everything was winning at big prices. Doesn’t bother me I’ve not had a bet but the bookies will be having a field day.
March 12, 2025 at 14:13 #1723068Thanks guys, Get In!!
Brilliant performance and what a ride by O’Keefe.
Ballyburn needs to go back hurdling and Patrick absolutely useless again.
March 12, 2025 at 14:13 #1723069Well done GM. Ballyburn just never looked a natural chaser and I’m talking about the entire season. Far from fluent and a bit keen early on.
March 12, 2025 at 14:15 #1723072Well done GM. Ballyburn looks absolutely hateful to ride. I don’t know how you would even go about schooling him, if there is nothing in front of you you can do nothing, and he was snatching at the reins too.

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
March 12, 2025 at 14:16 #1723074Should say the winner was very good. Probably will get overshadowed by the talk about how disappointing Ballyburn was. Would it be fair to say if it hadn’t been changed Ballyburn would have run in the Turners this year? Regardless of his jumping he’s surely too exuberant in his demeanour to ever be a Gold Cup winner.
March 12, 2025 at 14:17 #1723075As I said beforehand:
“Lecky Watson has front run before, but he is from the same stable as Ballyburn and imo has even more of a question mark regards stamina. So if going to the front it won’t be in his best interests to make it a strong pace.
Dancing City has led. Not sure it actually suits him though. But he’ll need a strong pace to bring his staying power into play. But will Mullins want a pace that will hurt his odds-on fav’s chance?”
——————No wonder Dancing City was weak. Basically, the jockey not trying his best to win.
Stayer – had little chance setting such a slow pace for the odds-on stable companion favourite.
With Ballyburn both pulling too hard and jumping poorly, Lecky Watson – the one with the most speed – won.Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2025 at 14:19 #1723076Only thing with that Ginge and I don’t disagree about how it panned out but how would a slow pace help a free going horse in Ballyburn?
March 12, 2025 at 14:20 #1723077They need to sort Ballyburn’s head carriage out. I know it used to be desirable for chasers to carry their head low but his is almost touching the floor. It looks awful and cannot make him easy to ride.
I do not believe it was Townend’s fault he lost but I get the feeling he did not ride him with any confidence.
March 12, 2025 at 14:23 #1723080I reck they put the wrong horse in the box.
The runner was actually his brother, Crashnburn.March 12, 2025 at 14:25 #1723082It might well be that he just isn’t a superstar , that head carriage is a issue but he looks like he needs 4m + already , he also isn’t a great jumper , lol Mullins could do with getting a few of his doing some extra practice
March 12, 2025 at 14:34 #1723090Why didnt Elliot bring Croke Park here? Would’ve had a huge chance imo.
March 12, 2025 at 14:39 #1723093Majborough, State Man and Final Demand all made race changing mistakes at the last (and second last in Majborough’s case), Kopek Des Bordes hit the last, but got away with it and Ballyburn made a shuddering error mid race.
Is Paul Townend overthinking it or are they all suspect jumpers who can be expected to make mistakes? Or both?
Probably nothing to it, but it occurred to me yesterday that there was a slight theme to some of his rides yesterday.
March 12, 2025 at 14:50 #1723099Majborough had Walsh on it.
State Man fell at the last and was very unlucky. Ballyburn took off too early and hit it. Kopek is a novice and he didn’t fall so ok.March 12, 2025 at 16:24 #1723137“Only thing with that Ginge and I don’t disagree about how it panned out but how would a slow pace help a free going horse in Ballyburn”?
————–Yes TTM, a slowish pace does not suit a horse who can sometimes race freely. However, most horses who are free early do settle eventually… Point really is that Ballyburn’s biggest question mark beforehand was stamina. Had Ballyburn settled he’d have been an easy winner because he has bags of speed. Just as Lecky Watson settled and has more speed than the rest was suited by the slow pace.
Fact is Dancing City is a stayer. Three miles is an absolute minimum for him in top company and Good-Soft ground also places the emphasis on speed. So given the ground conditions Danny needed it to be a strong pace for his stamina to come into play. Instead he set a crawl. Danny is not that stupid. Conclusion I make is that Danny was not trying his best for the horse’s chance. It meant that – given how Danny was going to ride – his chance was nowhere near what his form suggested it should be… And surprise surprise he’s been extremely weak in the market over the last few days. Trebled in price.
imo Stewards should have looked into the race.
Am not saying Dancing City would have won, just that his jockey (and trainer?) did not give the horse the best chance to win.Value Is Everything - AuthorPosts
