Interesting announcement today that ATR and RMG (who have the rights to RUK courses) are forming a joint venture company to sell UK and Irish TV rights overseas.
If they can work together with overseas rights it begs the question why they cannot work together better here in the UK.
"The new operation will be tasked with maximising the revenue opportunities for British and Irish racing in important pari-mutuel markets such as Italy, France, South Africa, Turkey and Australia as well as further developing opportunities in newer markets such as Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Discussions relating to the possible expansion of the joint venture’s remit to cover other international distribution and syndication opportunities are ongoing.
The joint venture has commissioned SIS to create an international broadcast service which will provide coverage of live racing from all 60 British and 26 Irish tracks and to manage distribution of the service to fixed odds markets such as the Caribbean and Sri Lanka.
The service will be launched under a new brand to be agreed by both partners."[/color:vbryay7a]

Likely to receive more from overseas if they work together but more in the UK if they go their separate ways.
i.e. Why isn’t all British racing on one channel instead viewers having to pay 2 subscriptions to watch it?January 10, 2010 at 21:03 #269191Why isn’t all British racing on one channel instead viewers having to pay 2 subscriptions to watch it?
I don’t pay for ATR. Except for the torture I have to endure while watching, such as adverts for loan sharks, and the fact that as a betting channel it shows the odds rather than the horses on many occasions, and almost never shows the horses in the parade ring.
