I just zoomed in on Newbury and saw what i thought was a Snowman with a big Orange thing stickin out! Is that you Ginge? probably doing a book on how many inches he can stick his stick in!
You can also have a quite interesting time with the overhead photographs on Bing.com
On many areas they have the option of a straight overhead view or a tilted view. The tilted photo for Wolverhampton (for example) looks about the same age as the Google one but their straight overhead shot is absolutely ancient.
Incidentally, is it just me that finds the overhead of Ffos Las a little bit disheartening?
Anyone who has read the BHA guidelines on potential new courses will know that in future, that’s how all new tracks will look. It’ll be like the US.
My "local" track, the closest flat racetrack to my house, Charles Town. 90 minutes drive if the traffic’s light. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=charles+t … loc=A&sa=X That itty bitty half-miler north of the main one was old Shenandoah Downs-yes, back in the 50s the track was so popular they built another one next to it. I think it’s still used as a training track, although the grandstand burned down a few years back.
