I didn’t say that Tim. Let’s call it ‘muddying the waters’.
July 29, 2015 at 10:59 #1150169The creation of false favourites, Ginger.
If you believe bookmakers are deliberately pricing up horses who do not have the best chance of winning as favourite… That means bookmakers are deliberately making the horse with the best chance of winning better odds than it should be.

Unfortuntely Woolfie, that would be bookmaker suicide.
Value Is EverythingJuly 29, 2015 at 12:40 #1150341I think the programme was definitely editted in a way to portray things in a certain way.
The situation where Code Red won was a prime example.
How many other races did they film where the compilers got it dead right ? i.e. backed the winner and laid the loser >It is a good watch as long as you add a touch of scepticism.
July 29, 2015 at 18:28 #1150816The Diklers column in todays Racing post mentions that the betting shop managers daughter has 2 agencys specializing in supplying actors for TV work.
If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.

Incidentally, only twelve year old girls use emoticons.

The BBC crew were only with the racing team on one Saturday afternoon.
I think you’re right to some degree about the editing though. I wonder how many different punters they were following at the course to seek the ‘small-time fairly successful responsible punter’ story. It seems quite a stroke of luck that they happened to follow one whose 20/1 shot came in.

My thoughts also Raymo and when does an Owner (Lulu the Zulu) go to place a bet with the Bookie surely they would have had best odds long before the day.
Heartbreaking seeing Portamento get nabbed by Code Red again especially now I know those boys at Corals where all over it..
Real insight into the backroom workings for me.
I’m more akin with Andy and his way of thinking around the parade ring, although I don’t think it’s worth going racing without betting at least £10 a race but for me it’s mainly about the horses and getting within touching distance of horses like Dawn Approach, Gleneagles and Frankel when he was running.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 29, 2015 at 22:37 #1151198The owner of Lulu The Zulu probably isn’t the shrewdest cookie to ever own a racehorse. Surely you don’t tell the bookie you own the thing before you get your bet on!
