One of those talented but fragile sorts that enhance the scene for a while.Capable of really smart form over hurdles and fences when able to show his best and a lovely horse to watch in action. Hope he does well in retirement with Andrew Balding.
Being so fragile probably meant that he never got the experience that he needed to perform at the high levels that he was aimed at, either. Have often thought that Andrew Balding puts a lot of time and thought into looking after this type of horse, going back to when he was in charge of ‘Top Cees’. I’m sure he’ll have a great retirement.
The Kingwell win was scant consolation for him missing a frozen-off Totesport Trophy off a mark of about 139, IIRC – but given the circumstances at the time, I’m prepared to take it.
