Might be greedy and double him up with Game on Dude, both look to have outstanding chances.

From the Oddschecker site, Adrian. What a disappoinment. I don’t believe we’ve seen the best of her yet – like a good few of these BC runners, I dare say.
October 30, 2012 at 15:52 #418697The prices the bookies are offering seem very skinny. Is it likely that waiting for the US tote pool would be preferable? I can’t believe they’ve been contracting.
October 30, 2012 at 21:44 #418731Clearly you don’t become an American racing expert in a few hours so caution should be the order of the day.
I think Ridasiyna represents the best chance for the Europeans but I was visually impressed by the wins of Lady Of Shamrock. Is she 16/1 on the assumption the European fillies on turf are historically superior or were those victories a case of style over substance? An American view on her chances would be appreciated.
November 1, 2012 at 01:03 #418811Handicapping note: Note: Now that Oak Tree is out of Santa Anita the track changed the names of most of the fall stakes races. A guide for the perplexed: http://espn.go.com/horse-racing/story/_ … all-stakes

Ridasyna is 4/1 on the morning line because she’s an Aga Khan horse. Lady of Shamrock is 12/1 on the morning line because the Californian F&M turf contingent that she’s been beating isn’t as strong as those back east, and neither of them are as good as the Europeans. However, the quirks of Santa Anita’s downhill superhighway turf course work in her favor. I expect Zagora to end up as the parimutuel favorite, unless the turf is worse than firm.
A few thoughts:
-Fame and Glory is going to be horribly overbet in the Marathon, so I’d take a closer look at the Americans this time. I must mention my local boy Not Abroad, who’s as hard-knocking as they come, will always find a way to get on the board, and has shown staying ability.
-California Flag is still the king of the Santa Anita turf sprints. Like Kauto Star at Kempton, bet against him here at your own risk.
-Point of Entry, from the legendary Phipps stable, is a shoe-in for Champion Turf Horse. He’s keeping the Dynaformer legacy alive and I look forward to watching him duke it out with St. Nicholas Abbey.
-Excelebration will lose to Wise Dan and make you all hate Joseph O’Brien all over again.
-Game On Dude has very appropriate initials.November 1, 2012 at 19:10 #418843If the real Excelebration turns up then he will make Wise Dan look like one can Dan. I think the Americans have a chance in the juv turf, which quite a few expect the Europeans to win. A couple of decent looking American horses have a decent draw, such as Noble Tune(nice mover) and Balance the Books for example. In the turf i’d expect either St Nic or Shareta to prevail, as they were looked after last time. Point of Entry can enter where he wants, but he won’t be winning this race i’m afraid. My single was The Fugue at 11/4, and the only horses in that race that concern me are the ones i don’t know. I think she will win as long as things go ok in running.
November 1, 2012 at 19:37 #418846What do you guys make of the first race – the dirt sprint for juveniles?
I have been pawing through it for the past hour and am starting to favour Ceiling Kitty over Merit Man. Being by Red Clubs with plenty of US blood in her pedigree, she should handle the dirt well. It is so hard to compare the pair of them, though.
Looking at last year’s race, the European contender didn’t have such strong form in the book as Ceiling Kitty, who is a Grade 1 winner. Secret Circle had a very similar profile to Merit Man, yet only clung on by a length from Shumoos. By that slightly convoluted logic, maybe Ceiling Kitty should get the verdict.
I have read reports that she "took a long time to get used to the place" when visiting the Santa Anita track, though. Can you shed any more light on that, Miss Woodford?
