No market yet, but hoping that Geronimo goes here. Quiet enough comeback run last time, but entitled to that, considering how long he was off.
Stablemate Duc De Grissay who’s also in same ownership, was my selection in this last year, and bang there when he came down at the last. He hasn’t really impressed since, but this has probably been the plan since then.
One who I’m definitely betting is Nakadam. Third in this last year, and although she catching up a little, I’ve seen signs of encouragement, and I think the handicapper might have overreacted a little.
I’ll probably split the Thomson pair, so for now, these my main fancies
Duc De Grissay
Geronimo
NakadamNovember 30, 2021 at 21:43 #1570031Murtagh trained horses for my dad’s best friend , they landed a touch a few weeks back with Baraboy , he,d been of over 3 years , 2 runs at huge prices then they filled there pockets
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 1, 2021 at 16:05 #1570110Duc De Grissay for me. I just hope that he’s a working mans price.
December 2, 2021 at 00:34 #157018431 entered, max field 16 for this marathon test, forecast soft ground, with rain predicted over the weekend.
Looking at the last 9 runnings, two things caught my attention.
5/9 winners were aged 11 or above, inc two multiple winners in Harry/Neptune.
5/9 winners had claimers aboard, could be a factor come race-day depending on bookings.
Nice mix of promising young stayers, taking on older horses proven over this kind of trip.
I can see the attraction in DDG,I suspect the market might too,any others we can make a case for?
Chidswell … OR 123,12 yr old, lowest chase mark since jan 2019.
More letters and unplaced finnishes in recent seasons,do they tell the whole story?
Noted making late headway on his seasonal re-appearance at Carlisle,it was his run in the Scottish National that really caught the eye.Taken off his feet early doors,he looked likely to be pulled up heading towards the business end,yet come the final bend he made up plenty of ground up that long Ayr straight, despite never really threatening. That was off 129,possibly in calmer waters here, his run style that day suggests this test may well be within his range.
His Kelso form reads …. 3,2,1,2,3
Ground wise he looks versatile,it would not surprise me if he indeed wants a little cut on those creaking joints.
NR yard 3/20 last 14 days, the 20% s/r at Kelso also suggests they know the type of horse to send here.
On a side note, long been an admirer of this trainer,he has an uncanny knack of keeping these older horses going, over a number of seasons.Could be a case of heart ruling the head with this lad,the classic punter conundrum,no bet as yet.
Just one horse from those entered, decent pot on offer for a class 3,lets hope plenty stand their ground.
December 2, 2021 at 23:41 #1570336Good stuff again Flyers.
That’s a decent case for Chidswell, and you might just get a decent price.
I’m fixed on Geronimo now of the Thomson pair, and hopefully will be him and Nakadam.
December 3, 2021 at 17:30 #1570403Got this very tight bar a dubious looking figure for Dawson City:
156 Dawson City
146 Amateur
144 Weststreet
143 Chidswell
143 Dino Boy
143 Strong EconomyOf those top six I favour Amateur, an improver last season and looked to need the run first time out this term, and Chidswell who put in a solid performance last time at Carlisle and has some decent efforts to his name isn long distance handicaps.
December 3, 2021 at 19:18 #1570431No Duc so played Geronimo , I’ll more than likely play Dino boy to
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 4, 2021 at 10:19 #1570538I haven’t had a bet yet, with the race not priced up fully, but I’ll go with Dawson City, and also Chidswell
