Quite a career, sometimes magnificent, often scruffy over a fence including when 2nd to Many Clouds. A stirring sight when running on strongly for 3rd under Davy Russell’s driving in the 2017 GN. A long time favourite of mine, relieved to hear this news
April 17, 2018 at 10:35 #1350842Is it true that Cue Card has been officially retired?
April 17, 2018 at 12:01 #1350851It is! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/horse-racing/43796366
He’s still going to Sandown but only to say goodbye
April 18, 2018 at 17:02 #1350981The right thing to do, nobody wants another race for Cue Card like the Ryanair at Cheltenham when he was never travelling.
Great horse, great career
April 21, 2018 at 19:38 #1351536Wishing Saint Are and Cue Card long and happy retirements. Two wonderfully durable performers who have both contributed a huge amount to jump racing. At his peak Cue Card really was up there with the all-time greats, while few horses can match Saint Are’s achievements at Aintree.
One other recent retirement with a little less fanfare is that of Nicky Henderson’s Sign Of A Victory. A very classy hurdler whose career was sadly curtailed by injury. More details here https://www.racingpost.com/news/burning-ambition-to-miss-aintree-foxhunters/326479

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
May 15, 2018 at 21:37 #1353958That’s Timmy Murphy calling it quits.
He says he’s fed up trying to do the weight and to be fair the transfer to the flat wasn’t a roaring success.
Still some great memories from his long jumps career and he’s still going to contribute to the game.
May 23, 2018 at 11:18 #1354721After a long and happy dotage between the flags under Laura Bradstock, it’s finally pipe and slippers time for:
A very happy retirement to our absolute legend Carruthers! May 23, 2018 at 12:11 #1354735And a happy retirement for Cole Harden too
We are delighted to welcome @CheltenhamRaces 2015 @Ladbrokes World Hurdle winner Cole Harden to @GreatwoodHorses after the 9 year old was sadly retired due to injury. Robin and Jill Eynon, Cole Harden’s owners said “we are very happy that we have found such a good home for Cole." pic.twitter.com/wmbYwdxmW0

June 6, 2018 at 15:11 #1356251Djakadam reported as retired of today aged 9. Goes back to his breeder in France. A class racehorse possibly just short of top class and no doubt affected by his near 2015 GC heroics behind Coneygree.
Here’s hoping for a long and happy retirement
June 6, 2018 at 15:25 #1356255Djakadam was top class, Homer. Seconds in the Gold Cup good enough to win many renewals. Just had a habit of finding one too good, possibly lacking that will to win.
Bit surprising retired at his age, but went chasing early in life and may be he’s had enough now.
Happy retirement Djakadam.
Value Is EverythingJune 6, 2018 at 17:23 #1356260Djakadam retirement due to a hock injury he suffered in France https://www.sportinglife.com/racing/news/djakadam-retires-due-to-injury/148639
Ginge – Think the ‘possibly lacking that will to win’ comment is a little harsh, yes he was unfortunate to come out on the losing side in many battles but I think it was more a case of him coming up against arguably better stayers than himself (horses like Coneygree, Cue Card, Don Cossack, Native River & Sizing John) rather than a lack of the will to win.
Many owners would kill to have a horse capable of running in 18 G1 races (13 consecutively) and whilst he only won 2 in total he was placed in a further 10 and only failed to complete in 2 – very sad that he has been forced out due to injury but wish him all the best for a long and happy retirement.
June 7, 2018 at 22:07 #1356332Agree with the last poster. He just did not have the stamina up that hill. Do not believe he was in any way ungenuine.
August 29, 2018 at 14:03 #1364910Ruth Carr has announced the retirement of Sovereign Debt

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
August 29, 2018 at 20:54 #1364955Love this horse – add Ruth Carr to the list of trainers deserving another good one!
August 29, 2018 at 22:05 #1364959Happy Retirement Sovereign Debt, so pleased to read that Ruth Carr has decided it’s time for him to rest his joints and take it easy, he’s been a grand servant and couldn’t have found a better home after the passing of Dandy Nichols who I read had almost bankrupted himself buying this fella.
Sovereign certainly never ran a bad race and with his striking good looks I’m sure he’ll be in great demand to make local appearances where he’ll be spoilt to bits as he deserves to be.
I’m going to miss him but happy that he’s in the best possible place and wish him a long and happy retirement.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 30, 2018 at 13:11 #1365026And here’s another one who’s thoroughly earned a rest. Happy retirement Megalala!
