Quito was indeed a David Chapman horse.
Belated thanks to Hawkeye – one of my favourites of recent years. Hope he has a long and happy retirement.August 24, 2017 at 18:43 #1315341Delighted to hear that Grumeti is going out in one piece. One of my favourites during his long and varied career. Surprised to note that he’s still only nine. Happy retirement boy.

October 18, 2017 at 23:42 #1322208Very happy to report that I met that wonderful old character Our Vic today at the National Heritage Centre, Palace House, Newmarket on a visit there today. He is enjoying a long and happy retirement and currently enjoying a holiday with the Retraining Of Racehorses organisation that carry out their fantastic work from the centre.
Also there today with Our Vic was the ex David Arbuthnot grey Starluck and a new recruit ex Phil McEntee trained Jonnie Skull all looking good and being retrained for new careers in the horse world.
It was heartening to hear that the owners never actually give up ownership of their horses but are happy for them to follow up new pursuits outside of the racing world for their own wellbeing. They all looked very happy today. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 19, 2017 at 17:55 #1322299Like many, I feared the worst when Endless Acres was pulled up in the Cesarewitch. Sad that we won’t see him race again but credit to everyone involved in saving his life https://www.instagram.com/p/BaRofWjl2_d/
October 19, 2017 at 19:37 #1322316Thanks for posting that lovely picture of Endless Acres and his lad Tonge,it just shows how much these horses are loved and full credit to his owners for being so patient..wish him well in his early retirement. Jac

October 25, 2017 at 18:59 #1323452Here is a video of Silvianco Conti doing some XC schooling:
Watch Silviniaco Conti turn his hoof to cross-country schooling
Looks like he is a natural!
October 25, 2017 at 21:23 #1323483There were some great photos of Silviniaco Conti hunting last winter, with Bryony Frost; a couple of lovely ones of them jumping, right at the bottom of the page: http://www.emmaharrisphotography.co.uk/p736402942
October 31, 2017 at 00:55 #1324243Thrilled to hear that one of my all-time favourites, Young Hustler, is still with us. Looking good for 30! https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/oct/30/young-hustler-grand-national-nigel-twiston-davies-cheltenham-1993

Still going strong at 30! That’s some going for a racehorse
October 31, 2017 at 03:22 #1324254I put my pound coin on Young Hustler one year in the GN (mum used to do the book for the family). IIRC he bowled along loose jumping beautifully after unseating or being brought down can’t remember which. I do remember feeling very indignant when it was recorded as “Fell” in the paper the next day. Glad to hear the old chap is going strong.
October 31, 2017 at 11:36 #1324288If you read the article it explains how he came to be brought down. Great to hear he’s still with us. I’ve got a betting slip for the National with his name on, but I thing it was the year before he was BD’d.
November 4, 2017 at 23:41 #1325214Andrew Balding’s grand old 9 year old handicapper Highland Colori ran his last race before retirement today at Newmarket putting in his usual brave effort to run fourth to the talented three year old Yellowhammer.
For a moment thought he might go out a winner as he led two furlongs from home and was just mugged for two places within the last 50 yards of the line just going down by under a length in 4th position.
His greatest career achievement came when he won the Ayr Gold Cup in 2013 from Louis The Pius.
Enjoy your retirement Highland ColoriThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 5, 2017 at 06:32 #1325254Monsieur Joe retired
