Happy retirement Thistlecrack! Best bits for me were the Liverpool hurdle- take him out and Shaneshill would have been an impressive winner but Thistlecrack was on a different planet; the King George -watch that with the sound turned up max and listen to the oohs when he stands off at the ditches, listen to the crowd noise build every time he jumps a fence coming over the last half dozen and there’s a split second drop in the noise when he gets in short and pops the last, then he lands safely and the crowd goes nuts; and the last mile of the Cotswold which was riveting, the house could’ve been on fire and you would have stayed to watch the end- both horses paid for that incredible finish, Many Clouds with everything, but they made it unforgettable.
If TC escapes out of his retirement paddock to go on a jaunt and they want to know where he got out they’ll have to look quite far back from the fence to find the takeoff hoofprints!
March 10, 2021 at 17:56 #1528943A few familiar names on the recent “Non-racing Agreements” list – Dusky Lark, Clyne & Jolly’s Cracked It. Also Fox Norton who hasn’t raced for a couple of years so apologies if somebody logged him before. Long and happy retirements to all of them (along with the less well known and unraced horses also listed).
March 10, 2021 at 18:02 #1528944Great news about old favourite Fox Norton. Also happy retirement to the three other horses mentioned, especially the lightly raced and highly fragile Ascot specialist Jolly’s Cracked It.
March 10, 2021 at 18:25 #1528948Fond memories of some of those. Backed Fox Norton quite a few times. He bolted up in a handicap at Cheltenham before moving to Tizzard and easily winning the Shloer. He was impressive when he won the Melling at Aintree.
And I remember backing Clyne when he won a race at Haydock just before Christmas and the fog was so thick you could not even see the finish! One of Stuart Machin’s finest moments as a commentator to keep talking for so long with nothing to see.
March 10, 2021 at 23:33 #1528977So relieved that Thistlecrack has been retired … though I suspected it was just a matter of time. Always thought it was the wrong decision to put him over fences … never the same horse. Should’ve stayed with hurdles.
Thistlecrack was (and still) one of my favourite horses of recent times. Wish him all the best.
March 19, 2021 at 20:47 #1531252Happy retirement to Sam Spinner. A great servant to connections but has clearly struggled recently. Only 9. Credit to connections for letting him bow out sound. Good luck Sam.
March 19, 2021 at 21:01 #1531257Happy Diva also retired, hopefully she will produce some nice goals to follow in her hoofsteps.
March 19, 2021 at 21:01 #1531258Foals even!!
March 19, 2021 at 21:05 #1531262Didn’t realise a few of these had been retired. Assumed Fox Norton must’ve been but nice to see confirmation he’s still around to enjoy his retirement.
I’m sure Happy Diva will produce some promising foals, a wonderful mare with an affinity with Cheltenham in particular.
March 24, 2021 at 11:26 #1532161Happy retirement Guitar Pete. He certainly deserves it https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/nicky-richards-pays-tribute-to-guitar-pete-as-absolute-star-is-retired/480573

A superb galloper and jumper at his best with a great will to win as evidenced in that superb veterans race at Chepstow earlier in the season.
Hopefully a long retirement awaits.
March 28, 2021 at 20:24 #1533180Willie Mullins’ classy mare Elfile has been retired, and is to be covered by Crystal Ocean. Wishing her a happy retirement.
March 28, 2021 at 20:33 #1533181As I watched him being pulled up I thought that maybe the last time we saw present man , here,s to a long happy retirement
April 11, 2021 at 11:33 #1535834Happy retirement to Definitly Red. Not to be yesterday but what a horse he’s been for his connections.
From Brian Ellison:
The decision has been made to retire Definitly Red after his run in yesterday’s Grand National. He pulled up 2 fences before the finish when getting tired but delighted to report that he came home safe and sound. He is pictured below with Andrew Robertson, our travelling head lad, who has ridden and looked after him at home since he joined us. Andy will continue to look after him in his retirement and he will have a home for life with him.
We, along with owners Phil & Julie Martin have been honoured to have had such a wonderful horse. He has given us all so much pleasure and owes us nothing.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported and followed Red throughout his career and we will endeavour to keep you posted on his new life with Andy.April 11, 2021 at 12:05 #1535846So pleased to read this, super boy, one of my favourites and obvious a real stable favourite.
Wishing him a long and happy retirement with his Lad.April 11, 2021 at 12:09 #1535848Big loss to Ellisons yard, but I know they will all be delighted he is retiring safe and sound.
