Good luck to Brendan Powell who has called time as a trainer. Has always seemed a gent and had some of the best reminiscences about riding for Captain Forster.
April 13, 2019 at 00:47 #1417226With fitting timing on the eve of the Scottish Grand National, the 2016 and 2017 winner Vicente has been retired. Wishing him a long and happy retirement.

Great to see Opening Batsman pulled up today when his chance had gone, and retired after the race. He seems to have been around for years.
April 14, 2019 at 22:52 #1417668A lot of recent retirees, good luck to them all and thanks for the memories. Sad to hear Ms Parfois retired, had hoped to see her race again, enjoy your retirement girl!
April 15, 2019 at 12:33 #1417695Saddened to hear about Ms Parfois but at least she gets out in one piece (just). Apparently a tendon injury has persuaded connections to retire her at just 8.
Whilst looking for this info I also came across Fran Berry who has had to retire with immediate effect after a fall at Wolverhampton in January.
April 27, 2019 at 00:18 #1423356Nautical Nitwit has had a fine season, including his win in The West Yorkshire Hurdle.
Connections have decided to retire him at 10, and good to see that he’s going to have a very happy retirement.
April 27, 2019 at 13:03 #1423454I know I’m biased, but they do put a lot of effort into rehoming their retirees. Lovely to see pictures of them on facebook.
April 27, 2019 at 14:38 #1423466Oliver Sherwood has announced the retirement of Rayvin Black. Mixed in with top hurdlers, if not quite the best himself, but always gave it the works and let’s hope he has a long and happy retirement.
April 29, 2019 at 00:08 #1424994I was at Sandown, and it seemed to be common knowledge that he was going to be retired after the race, so I’m at a complete loss as to why he was asked to jump the hurdles in the straight when he was badly adrift. Slightly disappointing on Leighton Aspell.
He isn’t a horse I know particularly well, but it was good to see him getting an extra bit of attention from the crowd afterwards.
April 29, 2019 at 12:30 #1426471Ben Pauling…
A very happy retirement to this absolute star A HARE BREATH. Thank you for the great memories and a huge thank you to his owner Valda and the Embiricos family for this very special horse. Enjoy your happy retirement at home. You’ll be missed by us all but you will shine in what ever you do next
April 30, 2019 at 20:41 #1429925Oliver Sherwood has announced the retirement of Rayvin Black.
Great to hear he’s out in one piece. A great servant who gave his all. Front runner who loved Sandown and the mud flying. A respectable 3rd in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot earlier in the season at odds of 66/1 showed he still had some ability.
Hope he has a good and lengthy retirement
May 2, 2019 at 08:42 #1430337Happy retirement to Pete The Feat. Looked like his 15 years were finally catching up with him this year and I was disappointed that they didn’t announce his retirement after he fell in the Grand Military. Delighted he’s going out in one piece.
May 9, 2019 at 12:37 #1433084Yes, happy retirement to Pete the Feat, relief he has retired safe and sound.
Lovely to see this in Horse&Hound too about the RoR class at Windsor Horse Show yesterday:
“Katie’s latest charge, the former National Hunt star Cue Card, came fourth in the Retraining of Racehorses open in-hand class, on his show ring debut, in a class won by former Grand National stalwart Saint Are.“[Cue Card] only left his [racing] training yard three weeks ago but we’re very excited about his future,” added Katie. “Plus his owner, Jean Bishop, was overwhelmed when Her Majesty specifically asked to meet her and see the horse in its stable.”

May 9, 2019 at 13:03 #1433086Happy retirement Pat Smullen, fingers crossed for staying cancer free and all the best for the future
May 15, 2019 at 22:26 #1438088Mike Cattermole from the commentary box…hopefully
Good Lord, man, is it that difficult to remember four horses names ?
May 16, 2019 at 07:32 #1438172Ballycasey has been retired after 8 seasons with Willie Mullins.
