(3:45) 28D At The Races Bobbyjo S’chase (Grade 2) €26,000.00 ( 3m 1f – 5yo+ )
1 Siegemaster(151) (DTHughes) – DNRussell(B) 11,08
2 Vic Venturi(155) (DTHughes) – PWFlood(C) 11,08
3 Coolcashin(138) (MJBowe) – TJDoyle 11,06
4 Arbor Supreme(143) (WPMullins) – DJCasey 11,03
5 Bluesea Cracker(141) (JMotherway) – AndrewJMcNamara 11,03
6 Mossbank(140) (MHourigan) – APHeskin(B) 11,03
7 Oscar Time(146) (MMLynch) – MrSWaley-Cohen 11,03
8 The Midnight Club(145) (WPMullins) – PTownend 11,03
9 Wheresben(135) (SFahey) – MrJAFahey 11,03Looks a decent trial for the various nationals. I think The Midnight Club is capable of turning the Gowran form around with Siegemaster. He should strip a good bit fitter for this race.
February 22, 2011 at 23:10 #341785I couldn’t agree more – I really fancy The Midnight Club (with the national weights published) to run a big race tomorrow – 15/8 with Hills feels like great value
February 23, 2011 at 12:50 #341839Think the best bet is The Midnight Club @ 16/1 for the National before he runs today. Though 15/8 does look fair.

Can’t really see Midnight Club being fitter for this 26k prize than he would have been for the 50k Thyestes. Has gone well fresh in the past, too.
With the stiffer track and an extra furlong to travel, no surprise at all to see Siegemaster outpoint him again todayFebruary 23, 2011 at 16:04 #341875AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
Tel me what Sam Wally was doing on Oscar Time please?
February 23, 2011 at 16:05 #341876Nice gamble landed there.
February 23, 2011 at 16:14 #341878As far as the Grand National is concerned:
Nice performance today by The Midnight Club, travelled well and turned for home going well. Pricked his ears in front, idled before Townend got after him again and ran on. Won with more in hand than distances suggest and must be better to come. 12/1 still looks value to me.
Oscar Time also travelled well, but again found little. Squiggle?
Arbor Supreme put in one of his better performances, but he is so inconsistent, does not jump to a good enough standard and has not run well at Aintree in the past.
Vic Venturi stayed on and will be better over further, but surely too exposed now to win the big one.

Oscar Time rarely finds much under pressure. Can’t see Sam did anything wrong myself. Horse possibly deserves a squiggle.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 23, 2011 at 16:20 #341881Same here, cant see what Sam Waley-Cohen done wrong, horse wasnt finding much under pressure, simple as.
Winner jumped well but can only see a place at best come Aintree

I dont know of any Irish Grand National winner or Paddy Power winner who hasn’t found for pressure, National surely the most presurising race you can get?
I think Sam had one thing in mind in last half mile and that was to be wary of the horses handicap mark hence the delayed attempt to ride his horse out towards the finish – the trainer and owner can now get in Grand National with a schooling session under their belt and possibly a drop of a few lbs.

How can the horse drop a few lbs for the Grand National when the weights are already out??
The Midnight Club won’t get a penalty for winning the race either.
February 23, 2011 at 17:41 #341901Was just about to state that regards the weights, Oscar Time was beaten fair and square, once again easy to blame the jockey

You read my sentance a little backwards, I see where you’re coming from but unlucky nice effort.

Mr. W.
Oscar Time finds little off the bridle.
Won the Paddy Power comfortably by 7 lengths when extremely well handicapped, 17 lbs lower than his Irish National mark. And won without needing to come under pressure. So no need to be strongly ridden.Ocar Time was actually second in the Irish Grand National, not the winner. Granted, he travelled like the winner until the last. Jumped it just behind Bluesea Cracker yet weakened on the short run-in to be beaten 4 1/2 lengths, only just hanging on to second.
And has been a weak finisher in every race this season.
