Fair play where it is due. Page 10 of the Racing Post reports Blue Square will quote prices on horses to ‘win at The Festival’ this season as well as a specific race. With races like the Spa and the new 2 1/2m novice chase complicating matters these days I can see it being quite popular. Hopefully other firms will follow suit so punters will still have a range of prices.
Over to Ladbrokes, Hills, Coral and Paddy Power etc.
October 15, 2010 at 08:21 #322477In fairness to Hill’s their pricing up all tomorrows (Saturday) TV races by 2pm today.
Granted you will be betting with levy dodgers (shops and on-course excepted).
October 15, 2010 at 08:36 #322478Hi Cav. DO you know if those prices are available in shops or just phone/net?
October 15, 2010 at 08:48 #322479Couldnt tell you DJ, I’m exchange only. I read about the offer in a piece Will Hayler did in the Guardian the other day.
October 15, 2010 at 11:01 #322498You’ve got be having a laugh surely? Loosen My Load to win in any race at Cheltenham 7/1
Bet punters are stampeding to get on as we speak, do you get your money back if they run in none?October 15, 2010 at 11:42 #322504You’ve got be having a laugh surely? Loosen My Load to win in any race at Cheltenham 7/1
Bet punters are stampeding to get on as we speak, do you get your money back if they run in none?I’d guess not, surely thats why the prices are generous?

This is an excellent idea and others have surely got to follow suit.
My only problem is it a genuine accepatable offer or just another one of these special bets I see advertised every single day that anyone who can count to 10 wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.
Take Micky D as an examle. If in Novemeber the horse was 8/1 to win the Arkle and 8/1 to win the RSA would they offer 7 or 8/1 to win any race at the festival or would they cut that price to something like 4/1.
If the latter is the plan then it will fall flat on it’s face and just serve to make the punter angry who will simply wait until nearer the time before betting.
Plus who is this offer aimed at?
I’d take a guess it’s the 5 quid punter for sure as Blue Square like the rst of them wouldn’t lay you 2 bananas to a banana as Barney C would say.
These offer are all fantasic but they aint worth **** if they aren’t prepared to lay a decent bet.

10/1 for the Jewson 16/1 for the Arkle out of form until stepped up in trip to 2m4f and will probably never run over 2 miles again in his life. Unless they stick him in apoor race just tosharpen him up at the start of the season.
I wouldn’t call that generous at all
October 15, 2010 at 11:56 #322509If it is ‘win-only’ I don’t think it is a great concession whatever your stake. If you want ante-post bets months in advance I guess most people will be looking to have a small amount each-way at double figure prices. There are very few Big Buck’s style certainties that crop up at any stage before a Festival.

Even he’s not certain to get there in one piece Stilvi. I really don’t know why they are so stingy with their prices. I lost a fair amount on Get Me Out Of Here already unless Jonjo has a change of heart (when someone goes 1000 on Betfair LOLOLOL) so it wouldn’t matter if the horse was twice the odds.
If you copy the page off the bettingzone and keep it until march you’ll be shocked at how many horses who appear now have gone.
The thing is the names change but most of the time the actual prices on the day aren’t that far off so they aren’t really being that generous in the first place.
More often than not the punter will get it wrong. I may have backed Binny on the day but look at how many times I backed him at 6/1 for decent money. They must have made a right few quid by laying it off.
i reckon they could up prices by 20% right across the board ans still come out smelling of roses
