Took a crashing fall in the 4.20 at Fairyhouse and looked like he was killed almost instantly. So sad, at least the suffering was over quickly. Just awful.
April 18, 2022 at 16:46 #1594425I really liked that horse. Watching him go to his happy place- the front- and pinging the first 3 I was smiling thinking oh good he is enjoying himself, it’s a nice day and he is going to give an exhibition off the front here. Then that. At least it looked instant. Was Paul Townend ok?
April 18, 2022 at 17:01 #1594431@greenasgrass he’s riding in the Irish National so I assume so. People on Twitter are reporting it looks like he had a heart attack before the jump. It would certainly explain it as he looked gone as soon as he hit the floor. On the second circuit he could still be seen lying exactly where he landed. Oli Bell said he had to be put down but I don’t think that’s correct. Incredibly sad.
April 18, 2022 at 17:31 #1594443No Kristal, stupid TV presenters always tell you the horse was put down, even after it died instantly.
I wonder whether the big grandstand crowds play a part in horses getting anxious or confused when confronted with the very loud noise.
May he rest in peace
April 18, 2022 at 18:24 #1594456It as defo instant and as said possibly heart attack on taking off, itv always say put down. But as we saw on ITV4 when they bypassed the screens weren’t fully round him and could see he was sadly go e as saw his back end as they bypassed and as he fell in same position

@Ruby
You could be spot on there about the crowd noise affecting the horses concentration. I thankfully didn’t see Blackbow’s race but tuned in for the start of the Irish National and thought I had got Wembly on World Cup night the noise was dreadful and it made me feel sad that racing has come to this that the crowd could not fall silent to watch the race and appreciate the horses. I bet most people at Fairyhouse racecourse failed to hear any of the commentary with that dreadful din going on.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 19, 2022 at 15:35 #1594557Any news on Ronald Pump in the same race? Took a crashing fall at the last and lay motionless for a good few seconds afterwards. Fingers crossed it was just tiredness as I’ve not seen anything to suggest it was worse than that.
