The super mare made it 24 from 24 tonight. She looked as good as ever cantering in by 4 lengths. Those who filled the 3 placings behind her have had 60 starts between them for 26 wins and 4.2 million dollars in prizemoney,it wasn’t a poor field. That makes it 14 group 1 wins,a big chance she may break John Henry’s record of 17 Group 1 wins and remain undefeated. If that happens she would deserve all the accolades as one of the greatest horses in history.Even if she doesn’t i should say she still desreves the accolade as one of the greatest horses ever.

Wouldn’t disagree with you. A wonderful horse and a pleasure to watch her. I do hope she comes over here again.

Kenh i wish she would go to Royal Ascot again.I was there last year when she won the Jubilee, the whole experience was a highlight in my life.Wasn’t just the races, the local pubs chatting with people getting to know them over a couple of weeks and the drama was just so good!!!
March 22, 2013 at 18:37 #433795Amazing mare.
March 23, 2013 at 01:08 #433831Brilliant, what a great mare, hope she comes back to the UK. Would love to see her run in July Cup at Newmarket and then pay a visit to Frankel.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 23, 2013 at 04:33 #433843Certainly she’s the best sprinter of all time. I’m not going to say she’s better than old John Henry though

I don’t think we’ll ever see another horse with that combination of speed, stamina, versatility, longevity, and heart.March 23, 2013 at 19:18 #433905Certainly she’s the best sprinter of all time. I’m not going to say she’s better than old John Henry though

I mentioned longevity.

And stamina. Take a look at some of those fractions. John Henry could take the first 6 furlongs of a 1 3/4 mile race in 1:09 and win going away.Black Caviar is a legend in her own right, but she’s no Steel Driving Horse.
March 24, 2013 at 13:07 #433943Being targetted at the Golden Jubilee again, prior to a speed date with Frankel. Ascot is conditional on Frankel being available.

Surely they can make room in his busy schedule for Black Caviar?

No she is no Steel Driving Horse Miss Woodford he got beaten in more than half his starts and she wouldn’t know what Phenylbutazone was Miss W! Your splits there Miss Woodford are usually timed from a couple of furlongs after the start then stopped at the 1 or 2 furlong mark. You have had a few ‘bute’ champs there Miss Woodford so its wrong to compare racing where usage of an anti-inflammatory is allowed to our racing which is not.Black Caviar has pushed the pain barrier a few times without any help.If Kinsston Town and Manikato had of been allowed to race on ‘bute’ the Group 1 record would probably be 20.

You’d certainly think so.

John Henry never ran on Bute
. Or Lasix for that matter.
As for losing half his starts, most of those losses came at ages 2, 3, and 4, when he was being run ragged and flipping from trainer to trainer and jockey to jockey. This is not a horse who was expected to run at a high level, he sold for $1,100 as a yearling. John got better with age. His best season came at age 9.
Of course all this is moot since Black Caviar will make her final start at Ascot so is likely to run perhaps twice more in her career. - AuthorPosts
