Three winners at Wolverhampton tonight. Well done to him but he is going to be losing his claim in next to no time at this rate.
Wouldn’t they be better off giving him a rest to preserve his claim for as long as possible?
January 16, 2023 at 20:11 #1631187Talented apprentice, but yes, claims need to be managed.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 16, 2023 at 20:22 #1631191You mean to manage it for the upcoming Flat season? I’d say yes, because a winner in a class 2 handicap during the turf season is always more worth than one in a class 6 race. It also opens more doors for the near future, better owners might get interested in having you at least as their 2nd jockey of choice.
January 16, 2023 at 20:32 #1631194Exactly this.
A claim that could be a weapon in a race like the Lincoln is wasted on a Class 6.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 16, 2023 at 20:42 #1631196I believe he is only 4 winners away from his claim being reduced from 7 to 5lbs.
I think his team should ensure he starts the turf season with that 5lb claim intact.
He is clearly a talented rider but he is very young. I am a little worried it is all happening a bit too fast but he does seem remarkably level headed.
January 16, 2023 at 21:06 #1631197If nothing else then he needs to make sure the claim is intact so that he can on the road utilising his talent at various racetracks learning the intricacies and nuances of places like ripon, Musselburgh and Newmarket etc.
Being able to ride round Wolverhampton blindfolded after riding out your claim there ultimately does more harm than good to the career he has!

IMO, he should take a break now until the start of the Flat turf at Doncaster then.
That’s four big handicaps he could potentially win and really make a name for himself and then have a full season as a claimer, with his 5lb claim still intact for the big summer meetings.
But no, let’s rack up four more Class 6s in January instead seems to be the thinking – or lack of it.

Don’t know about any plans but Billy is a great lad and I am delighted things are going well for him.
January 17, 2023 at 06:22 #1631232Other young jockeys are trying their luck elsewhere and who can blame them?
January 18, 2023 at 13:53 #1631417And another winner for the soon to be 5lb claimer.
January 18, 2023 at 13:59 #1631419At the risk of aftertiming, that is why I didn’t want him to take a break before Wedndesday!
January 18, 2023 at 14:05 #1631423I think that’s allowed, Nenni – you more or less flagged it up, albeit cryptically!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 18, 2023 at 15:14 #1631444His father said he will stop him riding at the end of January to preserve his claim for the start of the turf season.
Good move. That 5lb claim could be gold dust in some of the valuable handicaps.
January 18, 2023 at 15:26 #1631447I backed the second horse to both his winners today!
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysJanuary 18, 2023 at 15:44 #1631449Well, if he is to ride for another 10-12 days, I don’t think he’ll be stopping his horses. Already 11 winners from 46 rides in the past 14 days. Even that 5lb claim will be gone even before they get to the Craven Meeting.
He also has 23 booked rides in the next days (including Monday).
