Yeah, but there was no Racing Forum to help you complain about it.

Thanks largely to evening meetings, there’s long been more NH meetings during May than during October

And quite right too as it would be a sad waste of lush Spring turf on a high water table not to hold NH meetings on it

Early Autumn, on the other hand, often sees jumps meetings run on tired turf battered by the rigours of the summer sun and concomitant fetlock-jarring ground

There was some valuable races at Newton Abbot today and would have been nice if ITV could have shown a couple of them but there was no chance of the flat biased channel doing that, much preferring to interrupt coverage of Jumps Finale day with flat racing.

Forget all that 9 meetings this Saturday. Surely that is at least 3 to many.

Well that’s capitalism for you. A lot of people- myself included- prefer attending, betting on and watching jumps racing on telly to Flat racing so the market is there.

I went to Down Royal on Monday and enjoyed seeing a Triumph hurdle winner making a winning chase debut. I do quite like the Flat, but not enough to get dressed up, get in the car and pay in to the course.

A half brother to Samcro, by the sire of Our Conor, runs at Downpatrick tomorrow and I might go for the evening. “For those who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing they like”. I like it. Winter AW is not my bag but good luck to those who like it. To each their own.
