Hi,
I’m Richard Dunwoody and this is my first offering for Racing Forum members to peruse. I’ll be passing on my thoughts on the big racing issues of the time fortnightly from now on.
Please read and add your own comments.
Imperial out of King George
IT was with disappointment that I heard the news that Imperial Commander will miss the King George, but it is great to see that the Tingle Creek has been saved and re-arranged for Cheltenham this weekend.
While it wasn’t really a shock that the Gold Cup winner will miss Kempton, thus weakening the opposition to Kauto Star’s bid for an unprecedented fifth victory in the race, at least trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies should be applauded for answering every question as he kept the public informed of the gelding’s wellbeing.
While Nigel said: “There’s nothing set in stone”, I hope we’ll see Imperial Commander – who was faultless in his jumping at Haydock recently – back in action at Cheltenham in March.Big Zeb very much on track for the Festival
One star we are almost certain to see back at Prestbury Park is Big Zeb. The Wexford trainer will not send the nine-year-old back to Cheltenham on Saturday for the re-arranged Tingle Creek Chase – which was frozen off at Sandown on Saturday – preferring instead to stay closer to home for the Grade One Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown on December 27.
And despite racing being in the grip of an icy blast, Murphy says Big Zeb has not been held up in his work. “We’ve no problem with missing the Tingle Creek, wherever it was run,” said Murphy. “The race would have come too soon for him after he made his seasonal reappearance at Navan. We didn’t want to run him too quickly – he’s a horse that runs best fresh.”
Murphy continued “I couldn’t be happier with him at the moment. He is absolutely on course for Leopardstown and I think he has improved. He’s nine now, much stronger, and he’s a more settled horse. His jockey, Barry Geraghty, thinks he will take some stopping this season and I see no reason to argue with him.”
Big Zeb fell in the 2009 Champion Chase, having also tipped up in his previous race, but he has remained fluent in seven subsequent starts, winning five. However, Murphy feels there are still sceptics out there. He said: “There still seems to be a few people who doubt his ability. There’s been a lot of fuss made over nothing, a lot of nonsense said about him. If it would have been any other horse, he wouldn’t have had so much criticism. His jumping is fine, he’s better than ever, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the season.”Best of luck to AP
Finally, if you read my comments that were published back in April, you’re hopefully on a good 6-1 winner. AP McCoy was advised at that price for the Sports Personality of the Year Award after winning the Grand National. He’s now odds-on with some firms and already became the first jockey to be voted Sportsman of the year.It would be fantastic to see him win it – no sportsman deserves it more.
My admiration for AP is well documented and as Jonjo O’Neill recently said: “To be 15-times champion jockey in succession, that’s unheard of, and we’ll never see or hear it again.”
It has been a mystery to those in racing as to why AP has not won this accolade before but with that all-important Grand National trophy now on the mantel piece, the general sporting public hopefully have taken the great man to their hearts. It’s now or never – make sure you pick up the phones to vote for him on December 19!
Have a great weekend
Yours
Richard Dunwoody

December 12, 2010 at 20:00 #332354If this is Richard’s first column, how could we have backed AP at 6’s on his advice?
December 12, 2010 at 20:13 #332357I think he fairly obviously means comments that were published elsewhere.

If Ricahrd is going to be giving little snippets of info about horse like Big Zeb how can anyone complain? At least anyone wanting to have a bet on Big Zeb for Chelters can do so knowing he’s still on track.
Let’s face it a lot of these little snippets never make the headlins and the puinter is totally in the dark.
I welcome the man’s input although I am not pro tipping services. Heads way too big for that and mines is only 1/10th the size of TAPK’s.
Doubt if he’ll read this but if he does…..wasn’t me!!!!

They dont call me King Dong for nothing!

I would like Richard to share a few stories with us rather than trying to drum up business for himself! The guys an achiever he could tell us about what a surprise it was for
Charter Party
to win the Gold Cup and what a character The Duke was! I could listen to that sort of stuff all day!
December 14, 2010 at 15:29 #332583Best judge of pace of his day and I look forward to his comments. Roachy and myself have a lot to thank him for. Welcome Richard.
December 18, 2010 at 12:54 #333106Hi Cormac
For the benefit of racingforum members could you please
provide information on the results history of Richards service as promoted above.eg say I had had a £20 bet on each pro tip advised for the last year.
how many bets were there?
what was the strike rate?
what was the net profit and lossWhat would my net profit or loss be after accounting for service fees.
Could you even perhaps arrange for a spreadsheet of results to be made available so consideration of an optimum staking plan can be considered by racingforum members.
thanks in advance
