Being originally from Leicester and taking great pleasure in the truly amazing feat of winning the Premier League I could not let it pass without saying what a fantastic performance throughout the season and to emphasize the fact they were 5000/1 at the start of the season.
This must surely be the biggest shock ever in sport!!
Okay Norton’s Coin won a Gold Cup at 100/1 and Mon Mone won a National at 100/1 and I myself have backed 100/1 winners of golf tournaments but surely there has not been a 5000/1 winner before.
Yeah you get accumulators and double and trebles that pay huge odds but this was a SINGLE !!You can probably get less odds of Elvis being found alive.
WELL DONE LEICESTER

And any other big price winners spring to mind ??
May 3, 2016 at 01:58 #1244409That was brilliant for Leicester Raymo, and some amazing bets landed for
punters, many of whom obviously thought of it as a bit of a joke at the
start of the season. Spare a thought for the poor guy who placed a bet
of 50p on them before the season started, only to cash out after their
first win….FOR 45P !!!
What on earth was
he thinking about.I’m always happy to be reminded about Norton’s Coin Raymo, he wasn’t my
biggest winner, but he was my biggest priced winner. He did win at 100/1,
but I bet him at 200/1 on the morning of the race with Ladbrokes, who to
my recollection were the only bookies offering that on the day. I managed
to sneak off from work to their small shop on Bridge Street, south side
Glasgow, to get my bet on. It was a time when I really needed it, so it
was all the more sweet, even if there was no way I was allowed to get away
from work without putting up 2 40oz’s and 2 slabs of lager…..happy days
May 3, 2016 at 04:47 #1244412I remembered hearing of a guy winning big when Neil Armstrong placed a foot on
the moon. He was a Preston Man, David Threlfall….not the actor in Shameless,
who had a bet with Willie Hill in 1964 that a man would set foot on the moon
before 1970. He got odds of 1000/1 and received a payout of £10,000. with 6
months to spare.I hasten to add that although I saw that momentous day in 1969, …..Armstrong’s moon
walk, not Threlfall getting his winnings, I was only a kid at the time
May 3, 2016 at 07:55 #1244420I can’t think of a bigger priced winner. The most shocking thing is and probably why the odds were so big is the consistency angle. We have all seen giant killing acts over the one game, race etc. but Leicester did this over 36 games and nearly 9 months and have actually done it with 2 games to spare so it’s not as if they have scraped home. Obviously you need a few things to go your way like the big teams such as Man City and United have been ultra inconsistent whilst Chelsea had problems at the start of the season, but Leicester have only lost 3 all season so these teams may have struggled to overhaul them anyway.
The bookies say they will be paying out millions on this result but how much have the raked in on the bigger teams failing to win the title. Also this could be very profitable for them in the next few years. They will probably never give 5,000-1 again on a team and how many fans of the smaller clubs are going to have bets at a fraction of that price hoping they will emulate Leicester.
A massive well done to Leicester City, Premiership Champions
May 3, 2016 at 08:55 #1244421I’m surprised Vtc didn’t do the exacta with Spurs for 2nd.
Well done Leicester. Not playing or travelling in Europe, getting knocked out of the cups early helped in a big way as they were able to keep the players fresh and I cant remember them getting an injury all season.
Just hope they don’t sack the manager when they finished 13th next season.I had Gretna at 100/1 to win the Scottish FA Cup one year, I think 2006 and that was after Celtic got knocked out, don’t know the price they were before but it ended in tears as they lost in the final in a penalty shoot out.
Kyren Wilson was 250/1 in this years Snooker and got as low as 12’s before losing in the Q/F to the winner and Leicester fan Mark Selby.

May 3, 2016 at 11:51 #1244433Villa wouldn’t get to 70 points if the season went on another 100 years.
May 3, 2016 at 19:29 #1244448Truly the greatest sporting shock of all-time and ultimately executed with massive authority.
In racing in recent years Lights of Broadway was 200/1 and won a novices’ hurdle at Taunton in Jan 2012, whilst Maoi Chinn Tire was the 200/1 winner of a listed juvenile hurdle at Wetherby in October 2010. (Interestingly, it’s still racing and has won it’s last two outings on the Flat – in October at 22/1 and just last week at 16/1!)
I believe the biggest-price winner of all time was 250/1 poke Equinoctial landing a novices’ handicap hurdle at Kelso in 1990.

May 4, 2016 at 08:16 #1244480Not a winner but there can’t have been many 500/1 seconds: Terimon was, in the 1989 Derby
Given that Donald Trump was probably Leicester City-like at that other Big Kick-Off I’m toying with the idea of a fiver on Philip Green at 5,000/1 to be next Conservative leader and 10,000/1 next Labour leader, or vice versa, not sure which is the most least likely
Stranger things haven’t happened…yet
May 4, 2016 at 09:52 #1244482I believe both Trump and Corbyn were 150/1 in places upon announcing their respective candidacies (albeit Jezza’s price was just to be leader of The Labour Party, whilst The Donald’s was for President outright).
The only bright spot on both of them attaining the highest office would be the comedy of their first Camp David chinwag.

There is a tale that there has never been a 500-1 winner in racing. Unless of course anyone knows better..?

VTC seems to get at least one a week
May 4, 2016 at 16:12 #1244505When rank outsider Coole won a 34-runner event at Haydock in November 1929, the only racecourse punter who backed it to win on the Tote received a record dividend of 3410/1.
May 4, 2016 at 16:24 #1244507Ah yes, Tote payouts on winning rags tend to be longer than SP. Wonder what the payouts on the winners noted by Betlarge were, particularly the Listed race at Wetherby as that was probably a strongish market
May 4, 2016 at 17:06 #1244509Maoi Chinn Tire paid £224.40 (111.2/1) for the win whereas Lights Of Broadway netted successful punters £190.70 (94.35/1).
I don’t know about Equinoctial.
May 4, 2016 at 20:33 #1244514With all known form Leicester should have been at least 50000/1 to win the Premier League, a team like Leicester has never been placed let alone won the Premier League

I think those returns are to a level pound Seasider, even so they didn’t offer much of a big-price bonus.
The BFSP for MCT was 1000.0 and for LOB 810.4.
