Any news on the horse? ? ?
Hope he is ok.
Thanks.
April 26, 2008 at 14:44 #160054At least we know that connections will do everything possible for him; so sorry for Ginny, she said he was her favourite horse a few weeks ago.
April 26, 2008 at 14:56 #160057Fingers crossed.
April 26, 2008 at 17:04 #160077I’ve just phoned Howard Johnson’s yard, as I couldn’t find anything on-line.
The yard are not really aware of the extent of the injuries but as far as they know the horse is still alive but not in very good condition.
Sorry that it’s not very good news.

April 26, 2008 at 17:07 #160080Hope he is ok, come on Bewley’s.
April 26, 2008 at 17:07 #160081I have just checked on the Racing Post website under the detailed results section and all it says is that he suffered serious injury and his racing career is now over. I imagine from this that it is his tendons.
I really hope that he can get through this injury and have a happy retirement. Has anyone heard any further updates?April 26, 2008 at 17:33 #160085as I said before, I know they’ll do everything possible for him….what a sad end to the day…..lets all hope he pulls through.
April 26, 2008 at 18:29 #160089on no not berry please what happened i missed the race, i loved watching him run at aintree
hope he will be okApril 27, 2008 at 08:18 #160146I hope they can fix the old fellow well enough for him to enjoy a comfortable retirement A very sad way to end his career.
He was pulled up very quickly and the jockey jumped off immediately. It looked very much like he’d broken down, and the commentator said that as well.
Wasn’t there another horse injured too? I can’t remember which one….

I think Caribou in the same race got pulled up, i don’t know the extent of the problem with the horse though.

April 27, 2008 at 11:51 #160182Well, I don’t think I can ring the yard again!!!
Sunday is not a day to bother a racing yard……………hopefully they will be enjoying their lunch followed by a snooze………except those who are off racing, of course.

April 27, 2008 at 12:52 #160195Thought about starting a new thread for this but it follows on from Bewleys Berry’s injury.
With Bewleys Berry’s injury it reminded me of something.
I asked a racing farrier if there was any racecourse which is particularly hard on horses legs / hooves? He told me those racing at Sandown seemed to have a high level of tendon and other leg / hoof injuries, possibly due to the type of soil.
When you look at last years Whitbread (Betfred, B365) nothing has done much at all since.
On firm ground,
1.Hot Weld
2.Reveillez
3.My Will
4.Jack High
5.Zabenz
I believe these five have only managed one disappointing run between them. Jack High running poorly in February. The others to run, Cornish Sett, Juviegner, Wee Robbie, Sweet Diversion and cowboyboots, have not done much this season. The winner of the Celebration Mile, Dempsey has also not been seen since.
2006 winner Lacdoudal (good-firm) never showed the same form in 06-07 and not seen this time around.
Presumably most, if not all of these horses had injuries either at Sandown or since.
Is Sandown particularly hard on racehorses when the ground is on the firm side?
Do other racecourses have such a bad record on a firm surface?

Value Is EverythingApril 27, 2008 at 13:07 #160202Lacdoudal never recovered from the injury sustained during the Midlands National….I have often thought that Whitbread winners in recent years never seem to be heard of again, so it’s interesting what you say…I suppose it doesn’t help that it’s a long distance race run at a time when the ground is drying out.
April 27, 2008 at 13:17 #160205Hi moehat
I think you are getting Lacdoudal mixed up with Ladalko.
April 27, 2008 at 13:29 #160206thanks! thers a lot of horses I get jumbled up these days!!!
April 27, 2008 at 15:48 #160220The most disheartening thing about the situation was that Graham Wylie when interviewed by C4 before the race admitted that it was too firm for BB but flippantly said "well, it’s a nice day".
I realise that normally you would "get away with it" but I hope Graham thinks twice in future about doing what he and HoJo did.
