Cue Card at 6/4 has to be one of the worst value favourites of the year and I will happily take him on. He won this race last year but was coming into it with red-hot form, and he hasn’t been the same horse by any stretch this year. When falling at the same fence in last years Gold Cup, he looked ready to mount a serious challenge. This year, he was losing ground dramatically and was out on his feet.

Cue; Tea For Two. Comes into the race with some decent form, even though we know he loves going right-handed and he finished very close to Cue Card in the King George. I feel that fall will have a much bigger effect on Cue Card than it will on Tea For Two, and the younger horse should have the legs at this stage of the season to reverse the form. Tea For Two 14/1

Well done Voleur, that was a good bet landed.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Voleur – spot on. Farcical the difference in prices.

Silviniaco Conti’s Grade 1 wins in the last 3 years have come over Dynaste, Menorah + Ballynagour.

Cue Card’s been a shadow of himself all year.

Tea For Two was a nonsense price given the distances at Kempton.

Wasn’t confident but T42 was clearly the value.

What a fantastic finish to a race that wasn’t that difficult to win. I couldn’t have Cue Card on that ground but he ran a superb race and I’m obviously in the minority when I say that I’m delighted that he’s coming back next season.

A great day for Lizzie Kelly who surely now will start to pick up the outside rides she deserves.

Thank you all. Brennan seemed somewhat reluctant to push Cue Card as hard as he might have done with another horse. Great to see him run close to his best again, and contrary to what Joe Tizzard has said, I think he will be, should be, retired after this season.

Cheers Raymo, that bet was before the entries were out so really chuffed with it, though to be fair, he never looked like winning.

Colin Tizzard has repeatedly said this year that Cue Card is still at the height of his powers. I don’t know the horse as well as the trainer does but he hasn’t looked the same to me at all. His best run looked to be when thumping Coneygree but the former Gold Cup winner hasn’t looked the same horse since his brave win at Cheltenham, and Djakadam hasn’t franked the strength of that Gold Cup renewal, looking a short runner twice since.

Each to their own, but for me Cue Card is popular way beyond his actual achievements. One King George and zero Gold Cups is hardly the stuff of legend. He is perhaps the equine equivalent of Jimmy White in an era where the media are desperate to create another “People’s Champion”

Perhaps part of not retiring the horse is that they feel he has not left a sufficient legacy of success. The trouble is that age is the rust that never sleeps on a horse’s career. Cue Card has been good enough and successful enough to have earned his retirement and not be trotted out for another season, probably past his best and tarnishing his reputation.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Thanks fellas. Perfect ride by Coleman on MTOY, he’s had a good season in all, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him booked for more high profile rides next season.

Bristol De Mai has been one of the most disappointing horses of the entire season for me. I thought coming into it he could become a really decent, maybe Djakadam-level horse. Just not that good unfortunately.

It’s a tricky one with Cue Card Steve. I personally would retire him. But when you see a horse coming second in a King George, second in an Aintree Bowl, decimating a former Gold Cup winner, and running a grade 1 field ragged in Ascot, it’s easy to see why they think he has loads left to give. I think more than anything they want him to go out on a high, and if he had won today, who knows, maybe he would have bowed out a champion.

Well done Voleur nicely flagged up :yahoo:
Have to agree with you about Bristol De Mai too dear old Smad Place could teach him a thing or two…
and also well done to Vtc getting third with himself. :good:

I did finally get to watch the race Bobby and relieved to see Cue Card finish it and run so well.
Can understand what Voleur is saying about him going out on a high note so hope they find that race for him maybe later this year  Jac

    1. I don’t think Cue Card was ever really top class. Very good, yes, but not top class.

    2. I completely agree. Nonsensical running him as practically a 12yo.
