Cue Card at 6/4 has to be one of the worst value favourites of the year and I will happily take him on. He won this race last year but was coming into it with red-hot form, and he hasn’t been the same horse by any stretch this year. When falling at the same fence in last years Gold Cup, he looked ready to mount a serious challenge. This year, he was losing ground dramatically and was out on his feet.
Cue; Tea For Two. Comes into the race with some decent form, even though we know he loves going right-handed and he finished very close to Cue Card in the King George. I feel that fall will have a much bigger effect on Cue Card than it will on Tea For Two, and the younger horse should have the legs at this stage of the season to reverse the form. Tea For Two 14/1
April 5, 2017 at 13:16 #1295334Aintree is left-handed so that doesn’t come into it but 14/1 is a fair price. Who knows how he would have fared in the GC? Prefer EOD to put his disappointing run behind him last time. Was he pushed out of his comfort zone by UDS burning up the track? Less than a length to the GC winner the time before over 3 miles.
April 5, 2017 at 13:40 #1295337There isn’t a bigger fan of Empire Of Dirt out there but I wouldn’t touch him tomorrow. He was 20lbs below form at the Festival and he was beaten way before the distance became anything like a factor. He couldn’t even stay on past Aso. At his best I think he would have picked up Un De Sceaux who on a line through Aso probably didn’t need to better 163 to win the race. Basically, the race fell apart. Empire Of Dirt is clearly a fragile talent and there was always a chance the hard race in the Irish Gold Cup might leave a mark and that is probably the best explanation his dire performance. In hindsight I think they should have had enough faith in the horse to miss the Irish Gold Cup and go Ryanair/Punchestown Gold Cup. Hope I am wrong but I think we are looking at a badly botched campaign.
April 5, 2017 at 13:41 #1295338I am not quite convinced that EoD is a top class chaser, especially at 11/4, but on bare form yes he would have a good chance.
April 5, 2017 at 13:45 #1295339The right-handed comment was supposed to be a negative, looks like a positive.
April 5, 2017 at 15:15 #1295348I think Cue Card will win however, I do think that Paul Nicholls has made a mistake by running Saphir Du Rheu in the National rather than this as I think he would have an outstanding chance here.
April 5, 2017 at 16:04 #1295354Yes he really needs that prize money to retain his crown.
On a side note, how can Betfair go 16/1 on MYTOY? 16/1??! Have they learned nothing? Going in with a vengeance.
April 5, 2017 at 17:46 #1295369I think Silviniaco Conti is the value in this race at 10/1 !!
Didn’t run in it last year but the three previous years has finished first first and second and if Cue card is to get beat this is the one to do it!!
April 5, 2017 at 18:05 #1295372I’ll stay loyal to Cue Card at 7/4. Only worried about Empire of Dirt, but he was very moderate at Cheltenham. Cue Card was jumping poorly at Cheltenham and this smaller field shoud suit him better.
My bets for tomorrow
13.45 Top Notch 5/4
14.20 Forth Bridge 14/1 EW
14.50 Cue Card 7/4
15.25 My Tent Or Yours 16/1 EW
16.05 On The Fringe 2/1
16.40 Gino Trail 14/1 EW
17.15 Petticoat Tails 10/3April 5, 2017 at 23:10 #12954136/1 Bristol De Mai
Gets his ground. Worry is him making a round of good jumping.
April 5, 2017 at 23:26 #1295418Took a chance Ante-Post on Smad Place each way at 20’s. That was too big for a horse of his ability. Ground probably won’t be ideal, but he ran nicely here in October, and I’d happily settle for a finish in the first 3.
Empire of Dirt was one of the biggest disappointments of Cheltenham for me, and I’m not chancing him tomorrow at those prices.
I laid Cue Card for The Gold Cup, as he was just way too short on what he actually achieved this season, but my heart sank when he fell, and I’m just a bit surprised they’re risking him here. I really hope this is his swansong, and if in the same mood as last year, he could take some stopping. I would sacrifice my bet just to see him home safe and sound, and I would bloody love to see him romp this, and then get retired on the spot. What a reception he would get. One of those rare horses, who you’d like to see win, over a horse you’ve bet, and I’ll have everything crossed for him.
April 6, 2017 at 10:37 #1295461Well said, he thoroughly deserves it.

Here here Bobby I won’t even be able to watch this race today will be recording and watching once I know Cue Card has made it home safely wherever he comes and yes I don’t even mind him beating my horse Bristol De Mai by a nose.
I can never get One Man and Synchronised also Alverton out of my head. Three horses that had given their all at Cheltenham and never made it back home from Aintree, heartbreaking.
Please let this be Cue Card’s last race in the best way possible..and as you know Bobby I’ll be behind the sofa until it’s over
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 6, 2017 at 14:51 #1295564Cue Card seems weak in the betting. I put a couple of quid on Empire Of Dirt.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 6, 2017 at 15:00 #1295567What a horse Cue Card is and has been, loved watching that. Hopefully on his way to a well deserved retirement.
Not an expert, but thought Lizzie Kelly gave the winner an excellent ride.
April 6, 2017 at 15:07 #1295568Must be a doubt about Empire Of Dirt after that. Seemed to work his way back into it and then dropped away like a crumpled Chinese Lantern.
Delighted for Lizzie Kelly. Thrown to the turf at Cheltenham whilst the crowd were passing around naked pictures of her that were apparently leaked by a “Friend”
She deserved better than that and got the last laugh today. Tea For Two proved better than the bare form and stripped fitter today

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 6, 2017 at 15:09 #12955696/1 Bristol De Mai

Isn’t he a mudlark?
