Whats the difference between a system and a model. Everyone on this thread will know what a betting system is but what is a betting model and is one better than the other. I have been working on an idiots guide to creating betting models and you can take a look at

Perhaps not the best time to expect 100’s of replies oliasofsunhillow when we are all in lock-down and I simply do not have a clue.

Are they not the same but with different names?

    Hi oliasofsunhillow,

good question… so i did a bit of research

A model is an abstract representation of an idea, activity (may i suggest horse racing), business etc.
Thus enabling you to mess around with it and attempt to rule the world ish sort of thing B-)

SO! “What Are Horse Racing Systems?”

“Horse racing systems identify bets based upon a pre-determined set of rules. These rules can involve trainer’s trends, last time out winners, age of the horses etc. Systems can be developed through luck, guesswork or investigation of a perceived profitable angle. (or using a model) They can also vary greatly in complexity, with some systems contingent on several factors and others requiring just one or two filters to create bets.”

Punters like systems because they have a track record of success and are not contingent upon subjective factors
–> a horse is either a bet, or it isn’t.

      HERE’S a Hugh Taylor example

Not sure how Hugh Taylor’s example is a “system” or a “betting model” because its conditions of betting are so vague.

Models, systems, bots, available statistics are a waste of time regarding horse racing.

Show a small gambling trainer these and it will go in one ear and out the other. They think that stuff as nonsense.
He just wants to get a horse ready, entered and declared and all to go well on the day.
To be honest there is an opportunity there to advise many trainers how to back their horse. Some of them are still living in the stone ages.
Now don’t get me wrong..I do love reading form and old sayings like “no bad horses run in Newbury”.
These betting models and systems will clean you out.

If you are going to win or lose money win and lose it your way.

From what I can understand it narrows the race type to bet in. But how does it narrow down the horse to bet in the qualifying races?
