anyone here do it ?
i’ve just watched the 1.50 from wincanton and watched horse after horse fall with the race in it’s hands
over half a million was matched on the eventual winner, boytje, but before that, 1700 was matched at less than evens on mr ironman before he pulled up, then almost 14k matched on coeur dalene at less than evens before it fell, then over 15k on not for diamonds before it fell, then over 50k on coolers quest before it too fell – the last 3 amounts were matched at prices from evens down to 1/10 or less as well
some burnt fingers and happy campers there i should imagine, some maybe finishing early for the day and popping down the pub with a smile on their face …
October 28, 2007 at 15:06 #121875Yes I watched that race and it was eventful and any punter who backed the winner in running 3 fences out must have got good odds.
I did try betting in running a couple of years ago but I soon gave it up as I was no good at it. I still think that some people do not realise that satellite coverage is a few seconds behind terrestrial television and they are getting their fingers burnt.
I read recently that some fast fingered youngsters were making 100 grand a year at it which must mean that some punters are losing a lot at it..

I reckon the ATR coverage is about seven seconds behind
terrestial coverage , with RUK a bit quicker .October 28, 2007 at 18:55 #121939Which betting mediums can you use for betting in running, is it just Betfair? ? ?
October 28, 2007 at 19:02 #121946I’ve tried it in the past, found it quite good and would recommend it for serious punters. If you’re good you either win big or lose slightly. Didn’t think it was worth the stress for my measly stakes though!
Kauto, BIR is available at big high street bookmakers and online as well as on BF (and I presume other exchanges). Obviously BF has the ‘laying’ advantage, as with any bets.
October 28, 2007 at 19:25 #121954I never bet in running but always a layer.

Thank you.
Have never noticed it on online bookies, so will have to look.
October 28, 2007 at 21:15 #122008I go to John Lovell’s Coventry ‘in-running’ shop 3-4 times a week and pay £30 a day for the privilege. My understanding is that ATR is about 1.5 seconds behind SIS (which we have in the shop). In the old days there was plenty of money to be had by backing horses 10 yards from the line when only a bolt of lightning could prevent victory but there are so many in-running firms on-course now that this tactic is far less lucrative. I tend to have a £25 ‘guess’ bet half-way round then a £100 click when I think I’ve seen the race-winning move. If you’re playing at home best to do so off terrestial TV on a Saturday.
October 28, 2007 at 21:20 #122012Mounty, I look forward to you explaining your thieving ways before the Gambling Commission.
October 28, 2007 at 21:24 #122015I gave it a go for a couple of years-And i was rubbish at it!!!!
Rather bet something early doors and try and get my stake back by laying it at a shorter price.
November 5, 2007 at 08:42 #122996Yes i tried doing it and lost so much money so really steer clear of it now!
Anyone with any tips on how to do it…? I’d be grateful for them!!
November 5, 2007 at 10:36 #123020I’ve found in running pretty hopeless unless your closing out. There doesn’t seem to be any point in trying to back in-running unless you’ve got faster pictures than anyone else.
November 5, 2007 at 10:39 #123022IMO being a layer in running is far more profitable than being a backer. For the vast majority, there is always someone better placed to profit by backing in running. Some people pay a lot of money for the encryption keys for the raw feeds and presumable make a profit from high stakes backing. Others have access to the raw feeds as part of their paid work! Nice for them.
I make a profit from in running by analysing how the race is likely to be run and looking for opportunities to bet before the race and lay off for profit.
The three runner race at Carlisle yesterday was great for the layers. All three runners traded at odds of 1.5 or less in running.
